@Hopeful 80, you are now an

! That sleep thing is a real bear for several weeks after surgery. Here's a link to our Library article regarding that: Sleep deprivation is pretty much inevitable - but what causes it?

You can move from walker to cane whenever you feel comfortable and stable enough to do so. The time frame is different for everyone. You might want to start in the house with the cane at first and continue to use the walker outside, then move to the cane all the time and eventually to no assistance.

Take care and keep us posted. We care.

A few more articles for you to read @HopeFul80 - I used my walker for 10 weeks, but I was severely immobile pre surgery and wanted to ensure my gait improved.. You will know when it is time, it is very individual :)

The following is a link to an article which provides some approximate timeframes around the healing phases and processes and the relevant nutritional information for each phase.

Thanks for the readings @bottomshollow and @poppet. They are helpful. Btw, for some reason I slept through the night. I'm not sure why but was extremely grateful.:egypdance:

Just accept the good stuff when you get it---some nights are good and some are not!

I'm am just over 7 weeks post op. My 6 week appointment went well. My surgeon is pleased with my progress. As far as the operated hip is concerned, the only thing worth noting is that I still feel muscle tightness after PT. But I hear that might take a while to go away. Is anyone else experiencing the same? This feeling is so much more bearable than and a non-issue as compared to the bone on bone pain I feel on my left hip. My left hip is in need of replacement as well, and it's slowing me down. But, this Tuesday coming up I am going in for my LTHR. If that goes just as well as my first surgery I should be feeling great in just a few short weeks. I'm so looking forward to taking a nice walk without pain or a cane.

As an aside, I mentioned bonesmart to my surgeon, and he was familiar with site. Not only did he say he was impressed with the quality of information being shared, he even recommended the site to his family member before surgery. Great job Bonesmart and thanks for your support during this time.

Seems like you are having a great recovery @HopeFul80....that tightness you are feeling goes on for some time....especially after sitting for some time or after PT.....one day you just notice it's not there any more! Wow....you are going back for more on Tuesday....good luck and hoping you have another great recovery ......look forward to your post op reports again. Take care....Chrissie xxx

Hi @HopeFul80. I had my right hip replaced on February 21st, so we pretty much are on the same timeline. At 7 weeks my right hip feels pretty good. I am still having some tightness in the hip and some pain once in a while that comes and goes, but I figure it is still healing. I too am having my left hip replaced - April 24th. It is bad and hindering my recovery. I can't wait to walk normal again and without pain! I can't wait to hear how yours goes. I saw my OS today and I am all set for the surgery. GOOD LUCK!!

Hats off to you - having problems with just one hip is bad enough, but knowing you have to do it all again so soon must be hard, but compared to the pain you're obviously suffering (not to mention it holding you back from fully recovering from your first replacement) it's got to be worth it.
All the very best of luck - keep us updated & we'll be thinking of you x

So glad that new hip is doing well. Yes, the stiffness will ease. And once you have a matching set things should balance.
