THR ONE YEAR POST OP JUNE 1

Hi all sorry haven't been here but lost the link .. well it's been a year now and nothing had has changed since I've last posted so my surgeon to make me happy is doing a nuclear bone scan on Monday... according to him everything is fine I still can't put full weight on my right leg , nor walk up and down stairs or go for walks, so my life is basically the same as it was before my 3 hip surgeries. I hope you all have been well.

So sorry you are still struggling with this hip. Please let us know how the bone scan goes!

I will hopefully I will get some answers

I’m sorry you‘re still struggling. I wish you the best with your scan tomorrow. Hopefully the origin of your pain is discovered with a plan to resolve it. Let us know how you’re doing. We do care. :console2:

Hi all
Well just got results of my scan, it shows an old fracture not sure when that happened considering I have never fallen, I'm so upset right, I have been complaining about the pain and not being able to use my right leg since September or October of 2020, and was told I needed to give it more time. Well you ever just have that feeling when you get deep down when you know something is wrong well I really wish I had been wrong. I will have to wait till tomorrow to make appointment with the surgeon. Not sure what can be done, but can't live like this. I'm in tears right now just thinking about another surgery. Talk later.

Hi Layla

Hello there Melmax,
I’m really sorry you’re feeling so disheartened. I do hope you’re able to talk to your surgeon soon and formulate a plan that will bring you relief. It may not hurt to get a second opinion also, depending upon what your surgeon offers as a solution. Whatever the conclusion, we’ll walk along side you offering encouragement and support as needed. That’s a promise!
Wishing you comfort and peace of mind that this will be resolved soon. :prayer:

OH, @Melmax2 :console2:
I know I always mean well when I tell folks to be patient and give it some time due to my own experience with hip replacements, but as you say...we also need to listen to our body and our inner voice. Certainly you could not have known.
Well just got results of my scan, it shows an old fracture not sure when that happened
Just curious, did they do follow up xrays at any of your post op appointments and I suppose they didn't show up there? Where is the fracture if you dont mind sharing.
I will be thinking of you and hope that they have a plan. I know you are not wanting to think about another surgery, but certainly you deserve to get this fixed so you can walk and be out of pain.

Morning all sorry it has taken me a while to respond just trying to wrap my head around what happened at my appointment the other day, well the scan showed I had an old fracture of the greater femoral trochanter. Well the surgeon first off told me that it didn't have anything to do with my pain and also that I didn't know how to read a report and didn't understand anything I was reading, also wouldn't do anything to fix, was going to send me for second opinion, I'm sorry but it wasn't there before he replaced my hip, I've been complaining about it since October 2020, he should have looked into it before now instead of just blowing me off, I'm sitting here writing this in tears, because I trusted this man, well anyway I have an appointment on July 7, hopefully they can finally fix my hip, 4th maybe will be the charm. Talk soon

:console2:I'm so sorry your OS dismissed your complaints about your ongoing pain and sounds like he is coming off as dismissive even now. :nah:
Im glad your appointment is fairly quick.
Please let us know how your new consult goes.

I'm sorry your surgeon wasn't helpful and curious and response when you reported your pain. So maddening, so frustrating. You have a right to be majorly upset right now.

Hi me again, well went to the hospital yesterday to get surgical note to bring with me to my appointment next week, and this nightmare keeps getting better the parts the surgeon use are part of some recall, yes I understand that not everyone has problems with recalled part but obviously I am when of the the few that fall under the catagory that may. MOM hip parts, a part that has a recall on it that has been proven to cause fractures, I just wonder how much he knew ??? Hope you all have a great weekend

When I told him about the pain and that it was getting worse, he said that the x-rays were fine and gave me a cortisone shot, and sent me to PT, went back a month later same thing over and over. I refused more cortisone and PT didn't work.

I had a frustrating recovery for the first six months. Some of that was because I had outsized expectations about the speed of recovery. Nonetheless, I have to say, my surgeon was quite empathetic and responsive to my complaints.

I don't fully understand how surgeons miss problems like yours. It seems (and I'm not making excuses for your surgeon) that X-rays sometimes really do miss problems or a surgeon's reading of the X-rays can be flawed and miss a problem.

Are you gonna stick with this surgeon or go to someone new? Often on this forum, people decide to go to a new surgeon to fix problems. Just from reading anecdotally, it seems the weak spot that a number of surgeons have is in responding to a patient who is having problems in their recovery. I don't know if it's defensiveness or what, but often the initial surgeon just isn't up to fixing the problem.

No he isn't going to fix the problem, going to a different surgeon next week

From what I read in the surgical note and from all the model numbers yes MoM parts, I just want to get this taken care of soon.

@Melmax2 so sorry you've had to go through all of this but hopefully your meeting with a new surgeon next week will get you some resolution. Hope you'll keep us posted.

Hi all finally met with the new surgeon and he really didn't have a lot to say,he seemed rather perplexed,he did find that my right femur is moved over about inch to inch half to far to the right, but can't seem to find what is causing my hip pain. So off to see his boss which I did see. He can't believe I have a MOM THR done 1yr ago, he was surprised,so checking me metal poisoning and a Pseudotumor , and also said the acetabular is too big, just been loads of fun. So I'm sorry if I haven't posted much but it's been a lot to take in. So I looks like it might be a 4th surgery for me. But hopefully I can wait till after Nov. Because it's my 20 wedding anniversary and I really need the surprised my hubby has planned. Thanks for being here when I do need you all.
Kim

Aww Kim, I’m sorry you’re feeling you may need a fourth surgery. :console2: I hope your tests results are encouraging and if surgery becomes necessary you’re able to schedule it after celebrating your 20th anniversary. Congrats on twenty years!

We’ll continue to be here for you, so please keep us in the loop. We do care.
I hope you have a nice weekend!

:yikes: Shocking! Surely no one should be using MoM implants on anyone let alone a female patient. This problem was identified years ago. So sorry you ended up with this old school surgeon.

I know you don't want to face anymore surgery. But I think it's the best thing you can do. Get rid of that implant and the pain it is causing.

Please keep us updated!
