I'm so sorry to hear that you're still having problems @Defender. You may want to consider seeing another surgeon. Sometimes new eyes on a problem joint can help.

I know you are beyond frustrated with everything that's happened. What is your doctor saying?

Hi Defender,

I’ve spent some time reading through your story, and I’m so awfully sorry about all you’re dealing with! I can understand how depressing it could be…

It really seems like you need a fresh start with a changed surgeon, or someone who can look at your situation with clear eyes and no previous history or disappointment at poor outcomes. Someone who doesn’t know your surgeon, a true second opinion.

What would be the process you need to do to get that to happen? Might that be worthwhile to consider? There must be a way to do this!

I just hope you can get to a better place… I’m curious that your surgeon said that, at the time of the surgery, he was only able to get your knee to 90 degrees… that to me sounds very unusual! That’s why I would probably be seeking a second opinion from a surgeon who does not know your surgeon and has a good reputation for the type of surgery involved…

Hang in there! It’s good that you can come here fir support and to rant freely! We’ve all been there!

Thank you all for your reply's
As I said I see my consultant / surgeon on the 8th of September I think he will discharge me then.

Then I would hope to go back to my doctor for a referral to see another orthopaedic surgeon.
They have made so many mistakes I find it hard to trust anyone.
I think it may be hard to find another surgeon to take on my case but I will try I certainly can't go on like this.

I am only a short distance away from being in a wheelchair.

I totally understand this, after the poor outcome from my partial, leaving me with more issues than before surgery, I feel the same way.

I'm sorry to hear that you are still having problems. Has your infection cleared from your knee? I had an infection and that caused my knee to lose ROM. I couldn't hit 90 degrees at any time. I know you probably don't want to hear this but I had a revision because my ROM was shrinking as time went on. The revision was the best thing I did. I've gotten well past 100 degrees and I am back at work again. I hope you can see a new ortho doctor so that he/she can help you.

Feeling so low at the moment my C R P has gone from 43.5 to 55.5 and am getting more pain from my knee.
The doctor is calling me on Monday to discuss the results.

Is that an indication of infection?

Do you have a doctor on your team that specializes in infection? If not, you need one.

Over here they are called micro biologists.
Will have to wait until Monday to see what the doctor says.
Still only 70 degree bend which has had a bad impact on my life.
Many things I could manage before the opp I can no longer do.

Sorry to hear things are not improving for you. To me, this is even more indication that you need some new eyes on your knee. I hope you are able to do that. Let us know how the appointment goes.

( Up date.)
Had a long conversation with the doctor this evening.
I explained that my trust and confidence between me and my consultant was now gone I explained my reasons why and she was totally with me
I said I wanted to be referred on to see another consultant that specialises in revisions.
She is going to get in touch with the orthopaedic secretary to arrange this.
My only concern is they work at the same hospital.
I still have my follow up appointment September 8th which she said I should keep.
I will receive a letter in about a week concerning referral.

Hopefully you’ll get a good opinion from this different doctor and he’ll think of something different to do. I think ideally it’s better to see someone who doesn’t know your original surgeon, but sometimes you just can‘t.

Hoping for the best for you!

And, again, if you don’t have a doctor who specializes in infection you really do need to get one. Your condition has gone on way too long.

As I have said over here they are called micro biologists that's the way the system works.
Nothing I can do about it.

I’m really sorry that you don’t have a choice to get the best doctors, for your particular condition, to help you recover. That just doesn’t seem fair.

@Defender if you would like my help in finding someone who does not work in the same area as your current surgeon please do give me a shout.

You can chose what consultant you want to be referred to - be it a surgeon or micro biologist. It's your right as an NHS patient. A new, fresh set of eyes on your situation might just be what you need.

I would need to know who you are seeing now and where you are attending. If you don't feel comfortable posting the information on the public forum, feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks very much.
I will be receiving a letter within a week regarding my referral to see another orthopaedic consultant so will see how that goes.
My doctor is referring me to see a Hematologist Regarding my recent blood test.
She did say my liver and kidney are normal but was concerned why my C R P had gone up again.

Hi Defender,
It’s been a while since I’ve been on here. Sorry to hear your problems are ongoing still. How frustrating and how wearing for you. I have that ripping/Velcro noise when squatting or getting up from a chair in my right knee that is otherwise brilliant (sorry). When I mentioned it to my surgeon he said it was caused by scar tissue, but nothing to worry about. The strange thing is that I used to have the same noise many years ago back in my 20’s but then it went away.
I hope your new surgeon/consultant is able to help you and find a way forward to improve your quality of life.

I'm so sorry to hear you're having this additional problem. What type of specialist are you scheduled to see? Did they indicate the "lump" was a mass that needed to be checked out or a kidney stone?

The doctor said it could be a tumour or cancer but wouldn't commit he just said it needs looking at.
I can't remember what specialised I was to shocked to take it in.
I have lost my appetite but I have been for a while.
