31 day update - Ouch
It's 6:30 am on day 31. Thanks to all for your responses and for being here. This has to be the best hip replacement library on the web. I am awake because my "knee" has swelled and the pain would not allow me to sleep. Let me back up. When I woke up from the surgery, my entire right leg was sore and it seemed that my knee was just as sore as my hip. I was groggy and medicated and it all seemed normal. Here I am 31 days later and I am sure that my hip is progressing very well. I am grateful for that. If I drew a recovery graph and filled in the expected next 60 days of hip recovery, I am reasonably sure that I would be back to work on time which is 90 days total. If I draw the same graph with my knee, I don't see work for a long time. My job is fairly physical.
I have been doing PT since day 4 or 5 and now the PT is fairy aggressive. My hip handles the PT just fine but my knee does not. I have been doing some handyman work around the house very very slowly and never pushing myself. I have been slowly reducing my pain meds from 6 a day to 2. I thought the knee pain was decreasing but not as quickly as the hip pain. I woke up at 3:00 in a lot of pain and hobbled to the freezer for the ice pack. If today was PT day, I am sure that I could not make it as I can barely walk with the cane. I mentioned the knee pain to the surgeon when I last saw him on day 12 and his response was the he increased my leg length by about a quarter of an inch to make my legs even and it might be adjusting. Now when I consider that answer, it doesn't work for me as it was sore when I woke up from surgery. I have been alive now for more that 23000 days and the first time that I felt knee pain was when I woke up from HRS.
I had so hoped that I would sail through recovery and that this would be uneventfull but that is not the case. I will make an appointment on Monday to see the surgeon earlier than scheduled. In the meantime, I would appreciate any comments that might make me feel better about my "total recovery" Thanks in advance and yes the skateboard is parked.
