TKR Motorcycle riding????

I've gave my ZRX a good rip last weekend when the weather was better, it was easier than riding the bicycle and the motor is much better. Getting on the motorcycle is never the problem, it's the unintended getting off that hurts. The bigger problem we have now is that we have some parts that won't heal anymore. If we have an accident just realize it will be expensive and painful.

Mine is a right TKR which wasn't much of a problem. The left I would think would be a bigger issue since most people put that down first on a stop since you have the right on the rear brake. If you set the TKR knee down first and onto a slippery spot at a stop from ac condensate or an oil patch it could be painful.

My right TKR was Jan 8 and I’ve been back on my bike (a Triumph Tiger) for a few weeks now. My knee is bent at 90 degrees or a bit more (now I miss my cruiser with forward controls!) and I find I ache, then the ache goes away then comes back. I try to get off for a little walk every hour. In 4 weeks I am leaving for a 19 day trip from Ohio to Utah, and I’m trying to build up my hours in the saddle. Try it, is the best advice. I do find my recovery is faster if I overdo it. Still, I’m buying one of those bags you can fill with ice to pack as I can rely on hotel ice during the trip, and leave my freezer packs at home.

Thanks for the advice. The only reason I was asking was not out of fear but I promised my mom I would be at 100% before I started riding again. I know my knee will never be 100% but just being able to ride with no problems would be great. She is the only woman I would listen too FYI.

My son doesn't listen to me. I would much prefer him not to, but he still rides his motor bike - and he has an above-knee amputation of his right leg.

I am a big fan of try a short ride and see how you feel---great? ride further, not great, swollen, ride less or wait longer.

Well it's been a year and doing well. I had surgery November 16th, 2017 and I see my surgeon today for my 1 year check up. I have had other check ups also. The 1 month 3 month and then the 6 month and now up to year. I got more of a bend in my knee and plus exercising regularly. I never felt better. Thanks for everyone for their advice in the past year!

What a super post! Isn't it wonderful to get back to normal?

I was happy to hear that you are doing well. People often ask about motorcycle riding. Why don't you give us a post with your experiences with timing and riding? It might help others form a realistic picture of the future!

I'll let you know in the spring. I'm in Toronto Canada but I'll be back to give an update!

Hey everyone. I thought I'd give an update on my knee. Well it's been one year and six months approximately. Had my total knee replacement of the right knee in November of 2017. All the numbness and soreness is pretty much gone and walking pretty regular. I've even been on my Bike/Motorcycle for a bit and wasn't a problem. I do workout regularly and my diet is in check. I actually don't like to call it a diet because I believe diets have a beginning and an end. I look at it as a lifestyle choice and that is my mindset now. So thought I'd post my update because I know there are a lot of people like me probably preparing for this operation. My advice if you are having it like in 6 months go in as phyiscally fit as you can. It will help with your reovery. I know my avatar shows I'm in pretty fit shape but you can start now so your knee ready for the work you have to do afterwards and it won't hurt as much. That's my advice for those people who are preparing for the operation. Cheers and thanks again for the advice.

Hey Mr. Broiler, they went easy on you, I like to exercise and diet and I got beat up on this fine forum and they can be brutal tooMy advise is to relax and feed the ducks instead of that scary bike you have. Your very young and don’t worry about condition, it will all come naturally

Sorry don't know how to turn the title heading but have another question. I started playing recreational floor hockey and I'm the goalie. I went through the regular growing pains playing but only play once a week for an hour. Now with my right knee which is the surgery knee no problems. My left knee is the one which is a bit sore and suffered a bit of inflamation but week by week feels better. Now originally my left knee was half bad but I work out regularly. My doctor told me it looked good as once I had the surgery the left one would not bother me. So just wondering for people who might play other sports did they have issues with the opposite knee. It feels better as I am 4 weeks now into playing with the surgery knee and the left knee is feeling less and less inflamed.

Sorry don't know how to turn the title heading
I can’t answer your sports question but I can help you with a title change. What would you like it to be?

That’s great that your replaced knee is doing so well as a goalie!
