TKR kbueno44 - Fractured Patella now.

The dry skin and painful feeling are getting better. It felt like a severe sun burn there for awhile. Very sensitive to any touch or pressure. Using lotion and coconut oil. Hope everyone on here has a great week and good recovery this week.

I am almost 4 weeks from my surgery. I can walk fine, great. But I have a groin muscle that hurts so bad. Why now? And what should I do to help it repair itself?

Also, when is it okay to go back to my chiropractor? My back and shoulder need something. I'm trying real hard not to whine because I know my knee replacement is going well. But darn, if it isn't one thing, it's 17 others.

I had that groin thing 4 days post op. It sorted itself out. The week after that I had acute tendinitis in my shoulder from overusing it due to compensating. Yes, if it’s not one thing it’s 17 others!

Thanks Jockette. Misery does love company. :loll:

That shoulder tendinitis was way worse that the knee pain, and I was less than 2 weeks post op! It was awful!

The groin pain is probably caused because your body is still adjusting to your altered gait since surgery. The functioning of one joint does affect other joints. Just take it easy for a while and cut back on some of your walking.

As long as you can lie on your stomach without hurting your knee, I don't see why you can't consult your chiropractor about your shoulders. He/she may even be able to massage your shoulders while you are sitting down, leaning over a desk or table.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.

I have tried PT after my TKR twice but both times it just made my back and hips hurt and keep hurting. I am going to see my family doctor today to see what we can do about this. I am not going to continue PT at this point. I have lumbar spondylosis and I am really hurting from this more than the knee. Anyone else have problems like this?

I have low back problems also, so at PT I always refused to do anything that aggravates it. My PT said, “Well we won’t rob Peter to pay Paul “

Since PT is making those areas worse for you, don’t go. Just walk, if you can do that comfortably.

I experienced lumbar and hip pain post TKR but it wasn't due to PT. It was directly related to using a walker and elevating my leg too high. PT was actually beneficial for me because they addressed these problems along with my knee.

There is no need to discuss this with your GP. Just do it. There are many of us on here who did our TKR recoveries with NO PT at all and no at home exercises either. I recommend you read my recovery thread to see how little exercising I did for either knee! Knee recoveries UK style Parts I & II (Josephine) Why don't you do likewise?

@kbueno44 you will notice that I have merged your two threads together as we prefer that members in recovery only have one thread.

This is for three reasons
1. if you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts others have left you in the old threads
2. it often ends up that information is unnecessarily repeated
3. it's best if we can keep all your recovery story in one place so it's easily accessed if necessary

Maybe I can write about this without crying. I have been crying a lot since Tuesday. On Wednesday I saw my surgeon's assistant for x-rays and to see why my pain wasn't getting any better. It showed that I have a fracture of my patella. Only cure is rest and stability of the knee. I can't bend it past 40degrees and one suggestion was to get a knee brace that keeps it completely straight. I go back in 4 weeks and see how it is doing.

I’m so sorry you have a fractured patella. Did they have any thoughts about how it happened?

I’m sure it will be frustrating for you to rest and let it heal, but isn’t that better than more surgery? And that required rest is very good for your healing TKR, and by default, no PT, which will give you optimum conditions for everything to heal.

Sending a hug.

I'm so sorry about your patella. At the same time, I'm glad you know the cause of your pain. At least now you and the doctors can work on fixing your knee.

Other members have had this problem. Would you like to change your thread title to one that let's people know you have a fractured patella? Doing so would alert those who have had fractured patellas to come visit and offer helpful advice. :console2:

Sure. Misery loves company. Thanks.

@kbueno44 - I'm sorry to hear that your patella has fractured. I've changed the title of your recovery thread to reflect that, so that other people will see it.

I know that @PolarBear60 developed a fractured patella after her TKR. It's OK now. Perhaps she can give you some reassurance and tell you how she managed?

I am so sorry, but you have a reason for your pain now. I think you are definitely on the right track now. You will be fine!

So sorry to hear about your fractured patella. Sending hugs and prayers!
