THR Journaling healing of my new hip!

the thing that I noticed the most was my thigh muscles fatiguing with constant pressure on the accelerator.
Oh, that muscle soreness. I notice muscles in my butt when I shift back and forth from brake pedal to accelerator. So, no long distances for me either.

Started to drive..it’s ok. Went out to dinner with friends last night..ended up sitting for two hours. Stupid move! My quad and around incision is so sore and stiff. Forward two steps back one step. Had an amazing massage today. He works with People that have joint replacements. Heaven.
@CricketHip . I ended up completing my aspirin (two more days) then I have to wait a week also before injection. I’m praying that will help the bilateral leg pain.

Oh, I hope so too @J-nice. I bet you will have a lot of that soreness dissipate after your massage session. Did he have any input on your lower back? Could he see any patterns that indicated radiculopathy?
You sat for 2 hours?? girl!! :nah:Ahh well, we have to live and learn. I hope you enjoyed yourself. though and it was worth it.

Happy One Month Anniversary!
I hope you have a lovely day. A flower for you
@J-nice

Yesterday I had the lumbar injection. Hoping it will calm down the radicular pain from L5-S-1 disc tear. On the other hand my hip is doing fine. Tried doing PT at a place that was highly recommended but seriously I thought it was a

Waste of time. I have to be so careful having two issues at the same time. For me walking is the best therapy!

Give it a bit...I think you are right about the walking and there will be time for assessing any lingering issues.
Happy 1 month Hipversary @J-nice
Healing hugs coming your way:flwrysmile:

Quick question..my incision the last few days has been stinging a lot. Not sure why..haven’t been doing anything different. Little over 5 weeks now. I just keep icing. Anyone have the stinging?

Hi @J-nice! Good to "see" you!! I've seen several members posting about stinging/itching, I think as we get more active, some may be coming from the pulling of surrounding muscles and tissues?
And I like to think it's a sign of healing!
I'm just catching up on your thread and see you had your epidural! Another thing accomplished and I hope you are taking it easy today.. I have found that icing that area helps, too. Which Im sure you already know, you've been there and done that a few times.
Are you massaging around your incision with any nice lubricant such a Bio-Oil, Palmers Cocoa Butter? I've seen other suggestions but the above two were mentioned by my surgeons PA.

Have a great weekend! Please let us know how you are feeling after that injection takes hold?

@CricketHip Hi! Good to ‘see’ you, too! I haven’t been massaging anything around the incision, do you? What do you use if you do? I see my OS on Tuesday for 6 week check up..time zips by! This hip is taking longer to heal than last one but I think because of the back issue. Do you remember how long it took you to feel the effect of the epidural..it’s been 14 years since I’ve had one and can’t remember. My feet feel better so that is a good sign. I was icing now I’ve switched to heat today. Ice on the front and heat on the back...geez..lots of maneuvering !
I just retired from teaching in June so I don’t have to worry about trying to heal since school starts in two weeks! Last time I started back to school six weeks after surgery and it was tough.
Thanks for your response and have a great weekend!!

@J-nice, I had my visit with the surgeon's PA at 3 weeks and he said I could start gentle massage and bio-oil since my incision was healed.. I don't do anything deep with my massaging. I do gentle little circles all around the incision and change the directions of the circles.. feels great. You will most likely get the go ahead at your Tuesday appt. :thumb: Look at you! Almost 6 weeks!

My epidurals have varied but I usually get a good bit of relief by the 3rd to 5th day. Like you it seems to affect peripherally and progresses. I will say that once, when I let things get really inflamed it required another injection at around 6 weeks.
I remember you back from 2015 and your returning to work! I couldn't imagine how you did it. That's great that you've retired, what a relief. I can see that I won't be returning to work as soon as I did last time.
The doctor who gives me my epidurals says ice. They forced fluids into the area which is like swelling.
OMG we sound like we are 100 years old! My mother in law is almost 96 years old and takes less medication than me! :thud:
Back to our spine issues. I am thinking that maybe my back is factoring in this time, too. Not as clear cut as yours was but enough to make me wonder about getting an evaluation. I've limped for at least a year so it's probably just soft tissue adjusting to the new lay of the land.

I'm looking forward to a nice weekend and hope yours is a good one, too!

Well, @J-nice, I certainly don't have the back problems that you do but I'm blaming the ache in my lower back on sleeping on my back which I HATE! I hope the injection gives you some relief and that continued gentle walking will really help. I feel (although this is probably subjective on my part) that this hip has been harder than the last one, but I, too, am looking forward to my 6 week check-up and, I hope, a complete go-ahead to resume a more normal life. Right now it's just one day at a time--trudge, trudge, trudge... Happy Saturday!

Well..the epidural spiked up the bilateral pain!
I’ve researched that this can happen and than gradually get better. Man, I hope so. This hasn’t effected my hip..still feels ok minus a few incision stinging. Anyone had that experience with epidural ?

@J-nice I had 3 lumbar epidurals. The first one worked for a matter of weeks. The next 2 were a waste of time. Everyone reacts differently to these injections. Please don't do what I did - rest as much as you can. It can take a few days for things to calm down.

Thanks @Jaycey . I got the injection Wednesday and the pain is worse today

Gosh, just reading this I do feel your pain. Unfortunately I've been there. Does heat or ice help? Avoid sitting for any length of time.

Do you have any medication for the pain?

@Jaycey Yes, I do have left over Tramadol from the hip..been using that. You are so right about sitting..makes it worse. I just have to be patient and hopefully the pain will subside. It was starting to before injection but then had a rather intense massage which brought some of the pain back so decided to go ahead and have injection. One mistake after another. I was using ice but at this point what do you think is better ice or heat? I’m still using ice on my hip .I am grateful, though, that the hip is much better. What level was your injections and what was your issue? Did it eventually resolve?

If icing your back isn't helping try heat. Don't use heat on your hips though.
What level was your injections and what was your issue? Did it eventually resolve?
L3/4 Spinal stenosis, degenerative discs and spondylolisthesis. I had spinal decompression but it only relieved the sciatic pain in my legs. I will always have back pain unfortunately. I just keep moving!

Once your hips are healed you might benefit from working with a PT with experience in spinal issues. Building core stability does help.

Hello @J-nice
I’m catching up on your thread and see you had some pain after your epidural. Did that calm down? I’ve had that pain afterwards, too.
But after it dissipated I had good relief and hopefully you are able to say that, too.
