THR JoeKnows Recovery Thread - Round 2

Joe,
Time flies when we are having fun...right?!?!
I still get stiff if I sit too long. I can walk, stand or lay down, but sitting still gets me stiff.
Love that I can now roll onto either side to sleep, I did get used to back sleeping but nice to have options.
Stay well, sounds like you are doing great.

Hey all - I seem to be regressing a bit, but I blame only myself. I'm quite overworked and not utilizing my standing desk as I should. Particularly in the mornings, and particularly if I kick my knee pillow out while sleeping, I am fairly hobbled when I get up. In the afternoons, my groin hurts on both sides (mostly on the old hip, oddly). The old hip definitely "snaps" when this happens too, which has happened on occasion since the first surgery four years or so ago.

I'm very sure that the answer is to move around more, and I'll make a point of it. I have a two week trial coming up, I wonder if I can explain to the jury that I need to move around at seemingly inappropriate times, haha

Joe, you did jump back in pretty quickly this time. I found it concerning you returned to work as early as you did, but you maintained you were taking it easy. Can you make it a point to move around at work more and even store some ice packs there? You aren't even three months post op yet and you know how long this recovery can take.

Do you think this is from compensating...favoring the new hip? I hope with a healthy balance between work, activity and rest this all eases for you.

Hey Layla - I don't think it's from favoring the new hip. In fact, more often than not, I'm using the newer hip as my strong leg when standing up. I think I'm just being too sedentary because work is so busy - my workload has about doubled in the past 6 months (but my name's on the door now, so that's cool).

It's gotten better since my post, since I've made it a point to move around more. Between me and my partner who just had back surgery, we have about 8 reusable ice packs in the freezer, haha. The lingering problem is the groin on my left side (the first hip), which has been on and off for years... I'm guessing the bursa is getting mad at me. Last time a cortisone injection helped significantly, so if it doesn't go away over the weekend I'll see about getting that done before a trial later this month.

Congrats on making partner, Joe! I'm glad you've found some relief through moving around more and that you're feeling better. It's wise you have those ice packs handy at the office in case you need one. I do hope you find a permanent solution for the groin pain.
Good Luck with the upcoming trial!
@JoeKnows

I'm betting that you can talk to the judge about needing to move during the trial and the judge or you can make some kind of announcement to the jury.

I also feel very stiff after sitting too long. I wake up and I feel fine, I can do the elliptical or walk. But sitting kills me. I try and march in place after sitting, it helps loosen me up. Also, my thigh is still really sore. My butt pain seems to have disappeared thigh. I’m 5 weeks post dislocation - I had my surgery 6/24, then it dislocated on day 18.

Happy Three Month Anniversary, Joe.
I hope you're feeling stronger week by week and able to take the times of rest you deserve.
Have a great Thursday and weekend!
