Revision TKR Jan’s new knees- 1 for the left-2 for the right<

@jboles. I second that motion. This morning I can barely lift my arm I think I pulled a muscle leaning on my cane?:groan:

The trip to Disney World sounds great. Are the big kids or grandkids going too?

I wouldn't worry about the scooter because that is a lot of area to cover for anyone.

Don't let anyone weight shame you. There are a lot of people who are considered obese who have had great TKR outcomes.

You don't need the extra stress especially now with some heart issues showing up.I hope all the business stuff is done now and you can have a bit of a break.:) :-) (:

@Nigella2 my daughter and son-in-law and our only grandchild and one of her friends are going with us. Its been 7 years since I’ve been to Disney, but 7 years ago I walked an average of more than 10 miles each day we were there. There’s no way I could do that now.

I’ve always had a weight problem, but up until about 5 years ago no health problems so weight wasn’t really an issue. Now all my doctors can say is, you would be so much better if you lost weight. Seems like when I started having health problems they just seem to multiply.

Years ago when I went to Disney World with my hubby, we rented those scooters and we think it is the best kept secret out there about Disney parks. For $30 a day (that's what the cost was then; it may be more now), you can easily get from one place to another. You see more and do more with them. They are for anyone, not just for people with difficulty walking. You get preferential treatment at all the rides and exhibits (and for Disney prices, some special treatment is nice). They are fun to ride (we zipped around like kids!) So don't ever feel bad about using the scooters. The man we rented them from at the kiosk by the Boardwalk Hotel agreed that if more people realized they could use them, he'd really be busy!

Jan, you and the Mouse! One of my friends here went to Disneyworld after her first knee. She got a scooter and said that they never had to wait in any lines, just went to the front of every one. It was so great that she said she might rent one every time and just pretend she needed it!

I really, really hope that one of the revision doctors Jamie sent you will turn out to be the one to make things right for you. You have been more than patient and had to endure some really crappy comments from your dr. A lot of us on here would like to tell him off for you. Please let us know if you make an appt. with one of the revision drs. We're all pulling for you.

Say hi to Minnie for me!

Good luck Jan in the search of a revision specialist. I found it very difficult. Please keep us posted on how it goes for you. Praying that it goes smoothly for you.

@MSgirl I am hoping to get more excited about Disney. After what you pay for a week in Disney you want to get the most out of your time there. I think my husband is going to rent a scooter too, at least we will be able to go at the same pace.
@Hood1980 one of the doctors she sent is in Durham and even though it’s an hour from me, it’s the closest. When I looked him up online he gets great reviews and I don’t know if you’re a college basketball fan or not, but he did a knee replacement for the Duke basketball coach K. I figure he must be pretty good.

We are taking a few days off this week to go to the NC mountains for my birthday. I’m going to call when I get back to see about getting an appointment.

That’s awesome @jboles! Yes I know Coach K! He is a West Point alum as is my son that just moved to Raleigh. Small world. I wonder how long the wait is to get an initial evaluation appointment with him?

Yes, small world. I’m sure it’s going to be a long wait. I’m really curious to see what he has to say.

My husband, retired basketball coach, is a big fan of coach k!

Jan, Coach K could have anyone in the world do his knee. He would have found the best and gone to him. I hope you can get an appt. with him soon if that is who you choose to see. Enjoy the mountains and let us know if the leaves have turned. When we drove through East Tennessee a couple of weeks ago, only the dogwoods had turned but we enjoyed seeing them anyway. Maybe you had better pack a jacket. The temps have really plunged. Have a great time!

It’s a little chilly, but not cold. I love the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the scenery anytime of the year, even though fall is my favorite. The leaves aren’t very colorful this year. I think it’s been too wet and windy this year. The leaves are just barely turning or the trees are bare. Still nice to get away. This retirement thing is taking some getting used to for both me and my husband. We are both at a loss. There’s plenty of things I probably need to do, like cleaning and stuff, but not what I want to do!

Whenever I walk for any length of time I have what I believe is hamstring pain in my right back upper thigh. This is the knee that is valgus. Could that be the cause of this pain?

I survived Disney!!! Whew, glad it’s over!! It was hot! Almost 90 degrees everyday and a zillion people!! Even the locals said it was unseasonably warm. Even riding the scooters, I averaged 5,000 + steps each day. I might go back some time, but not until I can get by without a scooter. I was terrified of running into a child, but it was the adults who paid no attention and just walked out in front of you. I actually hit one guy, by accident of course! He just stepped directly into my path and stopped suddenly and before I could get stopped,I bumped into him. He had the nerve to tell me to watch where I was going. Now that the trip is behind us, it’s time to get busy getting a second opinion. My left knee did great, no pain at all. So I know what a correct TKR should be like. Sadly, I know what an incorrect one feels like too! I had so much ligament and hamstring pain all the way up the back of my right leg. I’m assuming this is from being out of alignment??

I'm glad you survived Disney and also glad you used a scooter.

I think it's quite likely that the mis-alignment caused at least some of your pain.

I went to a botanical place recently and for the first time ever, I needed to use a scooter. It was bittersweet, frustrating that since surgery I need to use a scooter, when before surgery and with the arthritis I could walk just fine. But, what fun to ride it! The first hundred yards all I could do was grin like a fool! What a hoot! :rotfl:

Thankfully it was a Tuesday and not crowded.

I know just what you mean @Jockette you don’t expect to need to ride a scooter after having TKR or PKR when you were able to walk before surgery! And yes, when it wasn’t wall to wall people (oblivious people) it was fun zooming around!:vespa:

:vespa: Found it!!!!

I really think so, since my left leg didn’t have any pain and it’s straight, it makes sense that the misalignment is causing the pain.

I called one of the revision doctors that @Jamie recommended today. The first available appointment is next April. Six months. Of course, I took the appointment, but I’m going to try another one on the list.
