THR I made it!

Well, things have been going great! My R-THR was 9/5 and I went back to my full time job yesterday 10/7. I stopped my pain meds and ditched my walker at two weeks, ditched my cane at three weeks, and can walk without a limp and drive at four weeks. I have to admit I was very diligent in doing all my exercises several times a day and went for walks each day slowly building up the distance. My swelling is gone and I feel like a new person! I took my grandson to a corn maze last weekend and walked the entire grounds before realizing that I was walking without thinking "how far do I have to go", "where can I sit to rest". My surgeon said I will probably be able to start running my dog in agility again around Jan/Feb. which I am so excited to do!! I truly hope everyone else is doing well with their replacements as well. Don't ever give up, do your exercises and have a positive frame of mind, that is one of the most important things!

Awesome!!! Your surgery was 2 days after mine, I'm a little behind you because of my fracture. I have only been walking on my hip for 7 days but you give me hope and more motivation.

Keep up the good work!!!

Sorry Josephine, and thanks for the well wishes! I do have to say that I was very strict with my pain meds, actually OCD about taking them every four hours on time 24/7 and weaned slowly to 6, then 8, then 12 hours. I set alarms for the first week every four hours to stay ahead of any pain. This made the exercises and walks easier. My incision healed nicely, staples were out at two weeks and I have been using a bit of cocoa butter around the leg as it is very dry. I slept when I was tired, slept a lot actually, but I think that helped too and ate well. I'm sleeping on my sides, but only with a pillow between my legs and am still very careful about turning over. I sit at a desk at my day job with both feet on the floor in front of me, so no twisting. I still cannot sit in the tub, so need a little stool to bathe with and still use my grabber to put my right sock on. I'm going to start some outpt pt next week to work on my range of motion. I pushed myself before my surgery and refused to give up my part time job that requires standing/walking and also refused to give up my dog agility and actually ran my dog in a show three weeks before my surgery. I was in extreme pain, but that helped keep my leg muscles active so they didn't have time to atrophy. I admit, I'm stubborn and pushed way beyond my limits before surgery, but am so thankful now. I hope I continue to feel this good.
