THR How to figure out the optimal medication schedule?

Did/do you have nausea with the oxy? If so how did you manage it.

@sundae - I have had slight nausea previously with oxy, but I was prescribed an anti-nausea medication. Also, I have purchased some crackers, as many people suggested those helped. In other words, not taking on an empty stomach.

All the best @PinkPeony! I am a little over two weeks out from surgery and found the entire experience much easier than I expected if that is any comfort. I have never had surgery before, so I was quite worried. The worst was recovering from the anesthesia and dealing with pain meds.

If anyone has nausea with the pain relief medications, the answer is to ask to be prescribed an anti-emetic (anti-vomiting, anti-nausea) medication. All narcotics make me vomit, but Zofran works well for me.
There's no need to continue feeling nauseated.

Another trick that works for mild nausea is to make sure you always have something to eat - even if it's just a cracker - with the medication. And it's not a good idea to have a lot of liquid sloshing round in your stomach.

Thank you that's very good advice. I think I had little food and lots of liquid when I became sick. I do have Zofran and took it after I felt ill. It didn't seem to do much. Perhaps I should take it beforehand and see if that prevents nausea.

Yes, you do need to take it before you start feeling nauseous. When I was on a regular schedule of narcotics, in the first couple of weeks after surgery, I took Zofran routinely twice a day.

Thank you! Also, I find it odd that sometimes I take the oxy and have no problem at all and then by the third dose (5mg) I begin feeling sick.

@sundae I am this in spades, only it's not really specifically and only nausea, just a general malaise after about a day and a half of taking any dose. Hate the stuff but still have to take it for the pain management.

Blessings for an uneventful surgery with good pain control. Will be looking for you on the healing side! ❤️

Wishing for you the very best, tomorrow! Hopefully you will be able to sleep some tonight.
See you on the recovery side!! :fasthorse:
