@Hipster63, Just wanted to weigh in with my experience. I’m also having the clunking, murmuring noises coming from my hip. The noise comes when I do an extreme hyper flexion of the hip. I was told that it is not unusual in the first few months, especially for those of us with multiple surgeries on the same hip.
My advice, based on my own experience, is to avoid too much walking or strengthening exercises too soon after your surgery. If I were you, I would wait till you have your assessment with your Physical Therapist. If you are using Sam and Rich, you are in good hands. These two are the best I’ve ever seen. They know what they’re doing and will guide you to recovery at the proper pace to avoid all the soft tissue issues that are so common after hip replacement.
I see a lot of advice that physical therapy is unnecessary for recovery from a hip replacement. For me, I found PT helpful. Not because of the strengthening and stretching they recommend, but more because of the exercises they prevented me from doing. Following my first surgery, I was far to aggressive, doing my own uninformed, self-directed PT without professional guidance (and before I found this wonderful forum). I managed to do some long term damage to my hip flexors.
The right PT’s can be a godsend. I would hold off doing much of anything till you get professional assessment and advice tailored to your specific history. Sam and Rich will give you that.
This is just my experience, for what it’s worth.
