Hip Replacement in March

I agree that it's not an ideal situation to be alone at only four days post op. Do you have the option of another family member, or close friend that could stay with you? Some members have stayed alone with people checking in on them. Having been through the surgery myself, I'm not sure how people do it that early on.

It takes a couple days to get in the groove of navigating your own home in my opinion. Figuring out the best way to do the things you need to do. I'm also in agreement about showering alone that early on. It took me several days to get in the shower, mainly out of apprehension. When I finally did, I felt a little shakey and wobbly. Then there is the issue of TEDS if you're OS prescribes them. You can't get them off and on alone.

At this point you have no idea how you'll be feeling four days post op. Most likely you will do well but it's not unheard for some to have a few rough days. Give it all careful consideration and have a back up plan should hubs decide to travel and you find yourself in need of help.
A great Tuesday to you!

I've given this a lot of thought. I think I would want someone with me, especially at night. I'm going to contact a home health agency and also mention it to a close friend. I'll bring up to him the options. Depending on how I feel, I may reschedule (he doesn't want me to though). The surgeon wants me to have someone home with me for two weeks. I'm big on following my surgeon's recommendations. However, I think it is better going into this surgery not to have to worry about who is coming over, and when, etc. If he is not traveling, we were both thinking he would work from home for the first week and then, if the coast is clear, he would go to work.

My pain level this past week has been quite tolerable, as long as I don't walk without my cane. I've really taken it easy. I've also come up with tricks to make things easier. The backpack is a great idea! We have a dog. I've been able to walk very slowly with her for about 10 minutes. She mainly sniffs!! Things are not as dire as when I first joined Bonesmart.

I think you're wise personally. With my 1st hip surgery and my knee surgery, I remember getting into a couple of fixes early on. Carrying meals and dropping things too heavy to lift with my grabber were the worst I think but also being just too drained to finish a simple task like making a grilled cheese.
My husband will be able to work from home the 1st week also plus the weekends on either end should have you & I both in good shape!
While you are still reasonably comfortable (as opposed to a few days post-op that is!), think about getting a grabber, either a leg lifter or find an old dressing gown cord and get some activities organized for when your hubby is back at work.
I think our surgery dates will sneak up on us before we know it!!
