Oh, I guess I missed that, sorry. I do know what you mean though about the weight. I am still having problems as well, one year later, so I haven't been able to lose the weight I gained before the surgery.

I trully hope this doctor can help you. I didn't know what to look for in an OS either and I believe that was a big mistake on my part, and the reason I am still not right.

Best of luck to you Tahoe...please keep us posted.

Thank you nanna! I really appreciate all your help. I will keep you posted! I showed my wife your post this morning and she said that nowhere is too far away if we found someone that would help us. The consensus is that the cup is probably loose... I just wanted it fixed, NOW!!! LOL I have had enough of this being patient stuff.

I have met my out of pocket maximum on my insurance so I am trying to get going to the doctor soon and get a plan going so that I can have surgery before the end of the year. (On the hip and weight loss surgery). I wonder if I could have the revision and have my left hip done at the same time?? I read about the people that have bilateral's and that sounds like it would be awesome to get it done together and be done with it. My left is trashed too, but to be honest I have been so scared to have the same outcome that I had on the right.

Again you guys I appreciate all the support.

I very much doubt any surgeon would want to do that. One just never knows what's coming up in a revision.

On the bariatric surgery front, a surgeon friend of mine had it done last November and since Christmas he's lost 73lbs!

Yeah I kind of figured that they wouldn't do that, but it sounded good...!! Thank you for the information, Joe.

I am having a phone consultation with the bariatric surgery office next week. I will keep you guys up to date on that too. I know several people that have had it done and had great results... I figure it couldn't hurt to look into it. My insurance covers it, and the surgeon that I am considering is one of the best. He is in Salt Lake City, UT. I will keep you guys updated!!

pctcoach... I had a crazy week and did not call, but I plan to Monday and will let you know what they say!! Sorry but as the rest of this post will talk about has been a tough week!

OK.... So for the next installment in my drama...

So, I have had the most horrible sinus/ear infection of my whole life for the last month (seriously!!). I have been on 4 courses of antibiotics, steroid packs, the works and was not getting better at all. At 3 AM on Tuesday (5/3) I was awoken from a dead sleep by the most absolute excruciatingly painful sinus headache of my whole life. (Sat me straight up in bed, the works) This goes on for awhile (like all day) and I end up throwing up from the pain and everything.

I can't get in to my G.P. as she was out of the office, but she calls me back and says take my rear end up to the ER (we don't have an urgent care or anything like that). So, I go and they give me a pain shot and some medicine for the nausea and send me home. The pain goes from a 9 to a 7 and never gets any better. I start throwing up again and back to the ER we go (my poor wife -- seriously deserves to be canonized). Now this time they are rather aggressive... blood tests, IV's, the works. About an hour after the blood is drawn a nurse comes in with insulin. I am worried now and ask the nurse why insulin?? He says because your blood sugar is 524. Imagine my surprise??

To this point I have never been diagnosed with diabetes and here they are telling me that my blood sugar is almost 5 times what it is supposed to be. I was in the ER a long time that night. Finally they get the headache/nausea under control and they send me home. They take my blood sugar again before we were leaving and it was 314. That is still WAY high, but send me home nonetheless and tell me to follow up with my G.P. in the morning.
Wednesday comes and I still have this ridiculous headache and still feel bad. I get in to my G.P. in the afternoon and she had all the records from the night before. Obviously, she is concerned about the blood sugar. She tests me and I was in the high 300's and does the urine test to see if there is any sugar in my urine. She came back in and said well your urine is more like Kool-aid. Mind you I have not eaten anything for more than 24 hours either because of the nausea.

So, of course, a rash of tests are ordered right then that can't be done until the morning of the next day. I also have an appointment with an ENT specialist the next morning to get to the bottom of the sinus issues. My G.P. says the test will tell her more, but to prepare myself because I have diabetes and we will be treating aggressively with numbers like the ones I have.

Thursday... fasting blood tests first thing.Which I wont know all the results from until Monday. I see the ENT at ten. This guy is the strangest guy I have met in a long time!! He gives me and my wife the total creeps. He says that I still have the sinus infection (DUH!!) and that antibiotics are not working (AGAIN DUH!!). His plan?? More antibiotics!! The same ones I have taken the course before. (He knows this too, by the way) He is adding steroids (that I have already taken too with no effect) and a nose spray. He wants me to put my cats in the garage and have no further contact with them... not going to happen in this lifetime.

First off this is an infection not an allergy. I even asked him if he thought I had some allergy contributing to getting this infection. He said NO! Oh boy this one is a winner. He says come back in 2 weeks and if its not better he will have to go in and open everything up surgically and flush it all out, but to be grateful because he wouldn't have to break my nose to do it. Needless to say... this guy is not doing surgery on my nose (period end of discussion)!! So, now I have to find another ENT and get an appointment. I have to go in Monday and sit down for the diabetes plan.

Friday (yesterday)... I feel horrible from the second I wake up. Its beginning to become routine to feel crappy when I get up. I test my blood sugar like I am supposed to and it was 458!! First thing! I hadn't eaten anything since 8:30 the night before (had tacos not half a cake, by the way)! Get to feeling worse all day. Blood sugar spikes at 518 around noon and I have done nothing but drink water all morning. I start throwing up. Back to the ER!! More IV fluids, more insulin, more meds for nausea. We were there for several hours. They send us home and now I was actually hungry. My wife is wiped out so we got Chinese take-out.

Well that has been my week. Today my blood sugar is through the roof and I still feel really bad, but what do you do?? I will be glad Monday to go in and get on a regimen that relieves this. It's scary stuff to have to go through.
Sorry this is so long, but it was therapeutic just to get it out!! Thanks for listening. I really do appreciate it!!

Oh yeah, somewhere in there I had the phone consult with the bariatric surgeons office and got a big packet of information to fill out and send in. From there they have a patient advocate that works with insurance to get things going. With the diabetes development the weight loss surgery will be easier to get approved for sure and they say that somewhere in the neighbourhood of 80% of people that have Type II diabetes have it resolved completely by the surgery. That would so rock. I will be sending in the packet Monday after the visit with my G.P. and the resulting plan of attack is drawn up!!

Thanks again for letting me vent. I will keep you updated more closely so that I don't end up writing a book to update you like I have here.

Tahoe..I don't know whether to laugh :hysterical: or cry :cry:after reading this!

You poor guy! Thank God you could find some humor in it, but I trully feel your pain. As a child I sufferd with terrible earaches/abcesses and there is nothing worse.

Yea, I agree with you about that ENT guy..I'd be running in the opposite direction, I think. Well, hopefully these antibiotics start to do something. Got to be careful of that hip!

Well, let's hope that next week is the opposite, that you find help, comfort and relief form this mess. I'll put a word in to the Big Guy upstairs :prayer1: .

Hang in there and PLEASE keep us posted...

BIzarre! But it's true about the bariatric surgery resolving Type 2.
I was considering it myself but my weight's coming down anyway so decided to pass.

Yeah what a week!! As for the bariatric surgery and the Type II Diabetes...if I could kill 2 birds with one stone how great would that be??

I swear that if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any at all!

Thanks for your quick replies of support!

Hmmm...think I've said that before myself! Then I look around and count my blessings :wink1: .

You are 100% right about counting blessings. With all that I have been through lately (as well as in my entire life) I have learned that is a true statement. It has carried me through a lot over the years. Man sometimes it's really hard though, but it sure beats the alternative.

My goodness, Tahoe!!! You are certainly going through a time with your blood sugar! Please do keep after the doctors to get it resolved because (as you know), it's not good for you to have it stay at those high levels.

Are they giving you any medication or insulin to take? I would think that would start here really soon!!

My heart goes out to you. Please let us know how you're doing!

Tahoe, I read all this, I started to respond, and then I stopped. I just didn't have words! All I could think was that you are so young to be going through all this misery.

But....being young is also very much to your advantage. Bariatric surgery is not to be taken lightly, but it can indeed help you regain health. And revision surgery is not to be taken lightly, but it can indeed help you regain health. So there is light at the end of this long long tunnel, and we will all cheer you on every inch of the way through the tunnel. Go forward and don't look back.

Sharon

Hi Tahoe

I have a friend who is 37 and had bariatric surgery this January. She is a new woman - not only in shape and size but confidence :)

And her pre-diabetes levels are down to normal and she is now off her high blood pressure medication too...

We're all here cheering for you,

Wendy

Sharon and Wendy... Thank you so much for your kind words of support. This website has been a Godsend and people like you make it happen. Thank you again!!

I am not a pity person. Matter-of-fact I recoil from it like a hand from a hot stove. I just don't have time for pity. I have found that attitude is everything! I am grateful for being young and having these problems. I will have this all worked out eventually and then I will have a long time to enjoy it!!

Everything is finally working out just how it is supposed to!! Not only have I met my deductible, I have met my out-of-pocket maximum. My healthcare is free now. That is amazing!! I go to the G.P. tomorrow to address this diabetes issue that has reared it's ugly head. Weight loss surgery may be the long term answer, but until then I have to treat it. I will keep you guys updated on that. In this upcoming week I am also on getting with a revision specialist! I will keep you updated on that too.

Thank you for all your support and I pray that I can return that favor when other people here need it.

Oh Tahoe my heart goes out to you! You have just been through the wringer! I sure hope you get some answers tomorrow! Feel better soon! :friends:

Don't fret about the diabetes. It's just healthy, sensible eating. I was diagnosed about 8 weeks ago and for a while I was scared to eat anything! Now I'm getting sorted and whilst on one tablet a day, it's under control. Hope yours will be too very soon.

We'll all be rootin' for ya on all of the above Tahoe! This is a fantstic forum for that. God knows you guys sure got me through a lot...don't know what I would have done without ya :wink1: !

So sorry to hear what you are going through, tahoe. I too rode Motorcycles for about 30 years, but I gess was fortunate to quit riding, and never hit the big one. But all my falls took a tole and here I am sitting at home with a titanium hip do to to many falls. I'll pray for your recovery and hope all goes well with you. My wife too has been a great comfort to me and I am lucky to have her. Good luck, and I hope everything works itself out.
