I had been given a referral to have new x-rays taken before seeing my OS and I had them done locally instead of at the hospital where I had my surgery done. Therefore my OS could not access them on his computer because the local x-ray place is not connected to the hospital as is the x-ray place at the hospital so the surgeon asked me if he could take photos of my x-rays while he had them up on his viewing screen. That was fine by me and I wondered if he was going to use them in some medical journal or something like that but I did not ask why he wanted the photos. I am curious though. Then again, maybe he just wanted a copy for his own records.

Grannyhippy. Thread starter shows this is your thread. If you go to mine, in the thread starter.
Your signature at the end of every post shows your surgery dates.

shouldn't the title under my Grannyhippy name now be "Revision THR" instead of "Thread Starter?"
Look at Krista's post - she had nothing under her name. It's only the staff that have labels.

OK. Thanks @Josephine and @Mojo333. I just thought that since I had a revision THR it would show up under my name.

I still don't think I navigate this forum in the correct way.

Thank you so much @Krista. Glad you are doing so well too. We can both see the light at the end of the tunnel on our long journey to recovery.

I know I have not been on this forum for quite some time but I have a question.

I know it is often advised to have antibiotics before any dental work such as having a tooth capped but what about other bacterial infections through illness.

A few days ago I visited my daughter to help mind her 14-month-old son while they were moving into their new house. My grandson, unfortunately, had a bout of vomiting and diarrhoea the day before I arrived and while at their place he had another episode of diarrhoea which leaked out of his nappy onto my daughter's lap. As a result, my daughter and I also became ill. I have no idea if the cause was bacterial or viral.

It has been 10 months since my revision hip replacement. Should I ask my GP for antibiotics? I am getting over the illness now but wonder if any bacteria could lodge around my prosthesis.

I also had a molar drilled out last week ready for the permanent cap to be placed later this week. My dentist did write a script for penicillin and said to take 4 tablets immediately and 4 tablets an hour before my next visit to have the cap placed. He also mentioned that it is just as a precaution.

Anyway, I would appreciate other peoples opinions on this. @Josephine or @Jaycey or anyone on the forum committee. I would also value your advice.

Edit note: I thought I was over the diarrhoea but had my first full meal tonight after a couple of hours it has returned. It is Sunday night and the gastro started around one am on Friday night, the day after I visited my family. I have just taken some anti-diarrhoea tablets. Maybe it is a virus after all. Both my daughter and I are particular about hand washing etc. but I did hold my grandson during the day on Thursday.

@Grannyhippy sounds like your family has that nasty virus that has been making the rounds. Darned uncomfortable but really no threat to your new hip.

The debate over the need for antibiotics prior to dental work continues. Current thinking is they are not needed. Here's a couple of articles from our Library:

Not a problem.

It's a precaution for the tooth, nothing else.

Such episodes are more likely to be viral but either way, there is no need to worry on account of your new hips. It doesn't work that way.

Thank you both so much for answering my questions @Jaycey and @Josephine. It is much appreciated.

I was texting my daughter later on that evening and she thought the cause was most likely viral as well. Both my daughter and my grandson are on the road to recovery although she told me it usually takes my grandson a week to recover fully after such an episode. He usually attends daycare three days a week while my daughter goes to work and I guess they easily pick things up from other children when there. The virus really knocked me around and left me feeling very lethargic.
