THR Four weeks tomorrow!

Just had "the sequel" hip replacement yesterday morning! First one was six weeks ago, 5/17 and all is progressing well. This second experience has been like night and day from the first. I was given anti nausea meds during surgery and woke
up 20 minutes after it was all done, alert and in minimal pain. Home in less than 12 hours. Still very early and mindful that the next week - 10 days could still hurt! I am, after all, penning this at 4 am because I cannot sleep! Given Tramadol this time instead of Oxycodone which only made me groggy. Lessons learned that I am carrying forward are not to push myself, listen to my body and to ice, ice, ice!

Congrats on the latest THR. Way to go...one recovery rolls into the other and you'll soon be on your way, back to all that you love...without the pain. :happydance:Happy Healing!

Hello Layla,
Thanks for the good wishes. Hip #1 (my right) is pain free and getting stronger every day since my THR two months ago. My recovery from #2 (left) is also coming along nicely. Now three weeks out from that one I am walking longer distances, but have noticed new pain over the last few days which I'm not sure is from the surgery or from muscles which are out of shape. I did stop taking pain meds (meloxicam 7.5 mg/day and tylenol 1000 mg 3x/day) after my two week post op when I reported my pain was a 1/10 (Can you believe it? I have not been a 1/10 in more than a year!), and wonder if that's why my pain is now about. 3/10. Keeping an eye on it and icing. May contact my doc about going back on some type of pain relief it doesn't improve or worsens. Really just a bump in the road. I cannot believe how dramatic my recovery has been. I filled with gratitude!

Hi Layla,

Thanks for checking in. I am not sure how to post this to my account and would ask your help to do so. Thanks!

It fees like my Summer of surgery is finally in my rear view mirror. Hip #1 on 5/17, Hip #2 on 6/27. Had a great family beach vacation the last week in July. The only bad part was not being able to get in the water until my six week post op visit on 8/10. I am walking up to two miles and my pain is nil, zip, nada, zero!! Still regaining full strength and motion and knowing I need to exercise caution to not overdo. Don't want to end up like Kathie Lee Gifford (an American tv personality who had hip replacement in June, overdid it by picking up a box of books and fell breaking her pelvis in two places a couple of weeks ago!).

I can honestly say that each day gets better and I find myself doing things that required some concentration and effort, and often quite a bit of pain, but are easy now. When I "remember when" and take note, I smile and offer thanks to all who made this possible. Bonesmart has been a wonderful resource and I am thankful it exists for me and others!

Thanks for the update, you're doing great! Good to read you enjoyed a family beach vacay and you don't have any pain! I read about, Kathie Lee Gifford. So frightening, thankfully she's recovering and I'm quite sure taking it slow and easy. Thank you for your kind words in regard to the forum, we're happy you found us and appreciate you sharing your journey with all.
Have a wonderful week!
