THR Emotional battle after hip replacement

Hi Lynette, so sorry to hear about your fracture. Can you tell us when did you have your hip replaced? Fractures do happen sometimes during the procedure but not sure how this could happen after surgery. I'll tag Jo and see if she can give you any input. Meanwhile please give us any more details that might help Jo. Josephine;

Hi Lynnette, so sorry to hear of your problem. I am surprised that it happened given your activities in the past few months as the usual tenet is that bone mass and strength increases the more it is loaded. I would therefore ask your surgeon or GP to do some blood tests for osteoporosis and osteopenia (which are actually much the same thing). Fractures such as you have described are not totally unknown but usually occur in elderly or frail individuals which you clearly are not!

On another note, I merged your two threads together and note that they has been a previous merge. I ask you please to not start new threads as it is quite important we have all your previous information readily at hand. For instance, you gave NO background information, no date of surgery and no account of your activities in this post, all of which would be important if I, as a nurse, would give you a sensible reply to your query. (Think of it like hospital notes!!) Perhaps you would also help in this by putting your surgery date in your signature which would be so appreciated.

Hi Lynette,

So sorry to hear about all the recent injuries and the hair line fracture. What does your OS say this is from??? Please keep us posted.

Take care,
Cardie

Under 30's surgery

are there any under 30 hip replacement victims?
Nice to get feedback from someone under 30.

No offence to the over 30 crowd!

Hello lynlouw, I had LTHR just a little over four months ago and I'm still going through my post op blues. Family and people at work are understanding but I think this is something I have to work out all by myself and so I think if you're still experiencing the emotional roller coaster focus on positive things and be around positive people.

At 11 months I have come to realise that the 'blues' seem to hang around a lot more than they used to.. But they do get less and less. Hang in there :)

Hi there all fellow replacement survivors! :dancy:

All is going well, "phew". fracture healed and I'm back on track to get fit.:yes!:

I've changed by approach to the gym and have decided to let go of the bodybuilding regime and focus on a more relaxed just be healthy approach to life.
Spinning has become my new hobby and will be trying out my water skills as well.
It's almost been 2 years since I had the replacement and each month it gets better and beter and I myself more patient and accepting of the life style changes.

Hi Lynette

Fantastic update - almost reads like 'Dont sweat the small stuff' with your relaxed attitude.. I love that!

So pleased to hear the fracture is healed, what a relief for you.

Love the idea of spinning..

It really is amazing how we seem to set a different bar for life after a joint replacement.. I often wonder what is in the drugs they give us during surgery for me to develop so much patience!

I am happy for you and your almost two year old hardware :)

thanks!
It has its ups and downs but one learns to deal and accept the fact that your life has changed and make the changes work for you.
Had to give up my hard core adrenalin pumping hobbies
- motocross
- endurance bike racing
but through this "letting go" I found other interest that are just as hair raising like spinning! :groan:
nothing gets the blood pumping than a 60min spinning class were your legs start creaming and your lungs start burning and someone screams PEDAL FATTIES PEDAL!!
Found spinning less intens on the hip as you are working through your core, were running you are using more joint impact for momentum.

My Dr just sits back in amazement when he hears what I've been up to. I just smile and comment that the hip cost me more than my truck and thus I will make sure I get my moneys worth out of it. :)
ALWAYS challange yourself! if you walk around thinking that due to the hip replacement you can't do things you will miss out on life !

Spinning is a relaxed approach????? LOL....you and I have TOTALLY different visions of what relaxed means. :)
