You will be able to go up and down the stairs after surgery. You just will use one leg at a time. They'll show you how before you leave. You wouldn't want to go up and down often at first because it will wear you out, but it is possible. If you can create a "sleeping nest" downstairs (and there is a bathroom and kitchen there), that would be ideal.

If you have a toilet on the first floor you should be ok. You could rent a portable bedside toilet to have on the first floor if that's where you'll be nesting. Lots of people find it easier to sleep in a recliner or sofa at first. Stairs are doable, but as Jamie said you won't want to go up/down often through the day.

Thank you all so much! I am needing every ounce of encouragement that I can get in order to get my head wrapped around how I can possibly make this happen!!!

Surgery scheduled for 2/22 if my A1C come back 8 or below. Bought a lazy boy to sleep in.

I'm very sad My A1C came back 8.8. It's a vicious cycle. Stress causes my blood sugar to go up. Pain in my knee causes me stress. I cannot get my stress level down with exercise like I normally do because I can barely walk. I need words of encouragement before the Dr calls me next to say that my surgery is cancelled. I want to cry.

I'm so sorry that you are going through so much. Maybe the OS will accept your A1C where it is especially if it has been going down. Can your primary care doctor help out and talk to the OS?

You will make it through the revision and recovery ok. It's hard. I've been there. Mine was only 8 months after my TKR. I found it was easier to recover from my revision than the original TKR. The first few days were rough. I just made sure that I always took my pain meds around the clock and iced and elevated. I have three small dogs to take care of. I bought a 'water cooler' for them that holds about a gallon of water. I fill it up as much as I can so they don't run out. You can use a lead that is long enough to let your dog out. I had a 'cookie' for each one that they loved so they would always come right back. I also put wee wee pads in the family room just in case.

I put some frozen dinners, veggies that can be steamed in the bag in my freezer. I picked up fruit cups, cheeses sticks, crackers and pretzels. I picked up bottles of water and other small bottles of juice. Anything for just a quick snack.

I think your recovery will be better because this time you will get a knee that functions correctly.
