Does Poor Muscle Tone Effect Recovery?

Ps...maybe that's why I'm so relieved that surgery has been moved back? My surgeon wants me to quit about three weeks before surgery, but he also said he understands how difficult it is to quit. He said to cut back as much as possible. I can live with that...I smoke 4 packs a day, so I only have to cut back to 2...KIDDING!

@Cynthia777: good goggely mook!!!!! I knew it....somehow...just need to figure out a catchy thread title now and see what happens.:heehee:

I try to keep it down to less than a pack, but sitting around all day makes it really hard.

@Cynthia777 I just thought I would comment on your question regarding muscle tone before surgery. I had my right hip done last Sept 2014 and my left one done January 2015.
Up until a year before my first surgery I was very active with day to day activities, walked 3 miles every day and snowshoed in the winter. I was always on the go,busy doing something all the time until my hips started to deteriorate so much that the bone on bone pain brought me to almost a "grinding" halt! I really tried to keep walking etc. to keep my muscle tone but I just could not, the pain was just to unbearable. The last few months before surgery I had to use a cane to get around and stairs,, well I literally had to pull myself up using the handrails. My days pre-surgery were spent mostly in my recliner on a heating pad popping pain meds.So going into surgery I did not have much muscle tone at all. My recovery after was slow and steady, and yes it might have been easier and quicker if I could have been in better shape, but I had no choice!
Today I am 10 months and 6 months post- op. I still have some muscle weakness, but now I can go up and down stairs normally, mow the lawn with a push mower, garden, swim, walk 2 miles everyday, and even ride a bike plus all the normal everyday stuff and all that medication free.

@NuMe2014
Bless your heart for taking the time to give such a detailed response! Your account is very encouraging! I'm going to save it on my iPad so I can re-read it during my recovery. Thanks again!

@NuMe2014
Thanks so much for letting us know. Your account of the prior months before your surgery sounds just like what I am going through. It is encouraging. :dancy:

I do have a pre-op thread on here if you want to read about my hip journey and I have a recovery one on the other side that I have not posted on for a while now... I'm kind of busy these days living life again...and you will too

@NuMe2014: I will certainly check your journey out. Thanks again for your post...it is most encouraging. Especially now that you said you're busy enjoying life. Sounds wonderful and I can't wait.
