I agree with both of you. I was given the same lifetime restriction. It made me depressed, as I can't imagine the next 20 yrs under those rules!

crossing your operative leg is safer since the alignment of the prosthesis is straight.
Hmmm... most every hippie is given instructions not to cross the midline. Many have this for life. It's really up to you and how comfortable you feel once you are back to normal activity. I had 90 degree restrictions for 6 weeks following my LTHR. After my RTHR I had no restrictions except "if it hurts don't do it".

An age old question @diet_hip . Some of it has to do with experience and skill. Some on how up to date the particular surgeon is on the latest techniques. Or perhaps your doc found something when he accessed your hip that made him very cautious. It can all boil down to confidence as well. No doc wants to see an op fail - for the patient's sake as well as their reputation.

I would suggest having a conversation with your surgeon about this. Ask about their reasoning. If they are reluctant to discuss this you might want to consult another surgeon or a colleague in that office.

@diet hip, Yes I really did dislocate 3 times, I was in hospital the 1st time and 3rd time. You can read it on my thread. Its why the first 3 months are important with the restrictions. You really did have a rocky start, its nice to read things are on the upswing. Taking it slow and listening to your body is important. The dislocation risk is very low, if you follow the rules. My leg muscles are partly paralysed, so it may have contributed to the 1st time. It really sounds like your are doing the right things, especially with how you set up the living space. I do look forward to reading about your progress, its still very early days.
