I did not have a deductible as I have an HMO. It was free to me completely. As was everything else. I paid 60.00 in total for my surgery. It was not hospital bought , it was delivered by a medical supply store from my insurance. And the best part is I used it for a week and donated it yesterday to the veterans so someone else can get use of it.. So even if it was more expensive, the pay it forward makes it worthwhile.

Mine is from a medical supply store as well (that's what I meant by hospital-supplied - they are all in this together!), ordered by the surgeon's office. But the flat price she quoted is far higher than the prices I can find on google. You must have excellent insurance!!! I think my surgery will cost me $1750 minimum.

what's the lovenox stuff? I'm assuming it is a blood thinner, but what is wrong with it? I think my doc puts me on that or Coumadin. I did aspirin for my first THR but this doc says no to aspirin.

It's insanely $$$$$$ expensive. Aspirin is an alternative option, from my doctor, and from what I have read here, some others as well. Also, it's shots that you would have to give yourself. No thank you.

The lovenox stuff is, I believe, the blood thinner I had. They were indeed an injection into stomach every day for two weeks. To me, it was not big deal -- and I am little or no meds kind of person. Hip surgery does have a higher risk of blood clots forming which was a high concern, no sense in taking a chance, for me. The needle is EXTREMELY small. I had a little difficulty with first two or three then my nurse/son showed me how to pinch an inch or two and poke it in which made it no problem. To me it burned a very little and stung for maybe 15 seconds.

I'm not going to take Lovenox shots at $ 600 when a $ 2 bottle of aspirin does the same thing. I even asked my OS's nurse and she said "no problem"...I even pushed her to see if the shots were better...she said "no"...
