Chubbster don't ever give up your passion to get back on the bike. I'm 4 months from rtkr and just today rode my Kawasaki ZRX over 100 miles. The ZRX is no cruiser. As a rider I'm sure you know your right leg is the least important appendage on the bike. I've installed aftermarket adjustable peg lowering kits on just the right side of both my bikes and it has made a huge difference. It drops them just 25mm but it makes a huge difference. I did also have to adjust the brake pedal lower too. I do have a bit more rom than 90 but I'm sure you will continue to increase yours.

Hi Nanamoon. Ok I will post dates and op etc. I have read all the recovery information packs on Bonesmart. I did that before I started to post. Excellent guidance thanks. ChubbsterPT TRKR 18th March 2014

Superdave. Glad you got to ride your Kawasaki. I have already put the lowered footrests on my Triumph as I was having trouble bending my rt knee before the op. At the moment I cannot get on a static bike in the gym and get a full 360 turn. Once I can do that I will be a bit closer to getting on my Triumph. Thanks for the post as it encourages me. FEELING ROUGH

Well today has not been so good. Pain is ok and no complaints from knee and leg apart from being aware and it not bending much. It is me that feels rough. I have only take 2 paracetamol today and no Tramadol. I feel like a inflated balloon. Full of gas and probably good that I live on my own!! No constipation at the moment. I always felt a bit sicky when I was taking 8 Tramadol a day. My appetite was coming back but now the mere thought of food is off putting. I am what I call Manopausal in that I get hot flushes and sweats. My BP is a little higher than normal. I seem to be peeing little and often but not necessarily drinking a great deal. I have read up on the demon Tramadol and these are many of the symptoms it can cause. Has anyone had the same sort of (withdrawal?) symptons and if so how long did they last? Feeling very low at this moment. Due to go on holiday to Spain very early Thursday and hopefully will be feeling better. ChubbsterPT TRKR 18th March 2014

@ChubbsterPT - you have to tail off gradually from Tramadol, or you can get some of those symptoms. Some people experience no symptoms at all, but others do have few problems. Slowly does it!

Celle.
You are so right. I felt so rubbish and having googled my symptons on Tramadol it was all there. So 10pm tonight(mon) I took just one and within 30 minutes started feeling better. Just had small food. I will just take as few as necessary to keep that and what little pain which is prob level 1 to 2 and wean myself of the dreaded Trams slowly. Just need to get the bending going slowly as well!!

We've had several people her on BoneSmart who have successfully got back to riding their motor bikes. I'm sure you'll make it too, @ChubbsterPT . Just give yourself time.

Quick update. Slept ok. Woke feeling ok. Taken two Tramadol this morning as going to the gym for general muscle building fitness. Very very gentle on knee. It seems that I will have to wean myself slowly off the Tramadol. Keep you posted. Thanks for help once again. Amazing website and I am spreading the word to all and sundry including docs and physios! I do note that America shortens their physios to PTs. In UK a PT is the title used for a Personal Trainer which is what I am. Totally different jobs!

INTO WEEK 9

8 weeks now and I feel like I am making daily progress my ROM is not great but I have 3 x 13 steps up to my flat. Going up is never a problem but coming down was one step at a time. Now I can get down by one step after another (left right left right etc) and today I managed to kind of skip down, making sure I had a good grip on the rail. Doing very little exercise on the knee and the swelling is slowly decreasing. I have been doing upper body and core work in the gym and started doing squats with a 20kg dumbbell across my shoulders BUT only to the point where my knee says stop. Nice slow movements and holding for 2 seconds on the squat just to stretch the quad muscle a tiny bit each time. Off to my Spain house in the morning for some sun (it rained there today!!) and to use the gym and spa which is on the site. After my episode Monday when I stopped the Tramadol I have been taking 4 per day instead if eight. And will try to further reduce them until I feel ok. No real pain from the knee but as Celle quoted me I am one of the people that has to wean myself of the darn things.
I spoke to another gym member whose father has had a new hip and 4 weeks ago a new knee. I gave him the Bonesmart site and told him to get his dad on it.

How do people get to see my new posts as I notice Hopefaith for instance has many replies, almost like a chat posting conversation or does everyone get to see them. I would like to change my post title to 8 WEEKS IN AND PROGRESSING WELL. Can someone do that for me please. ChubbsterPT

Hi @ChubbsterPT,
I think you can change your thread title at the top right of the page, not sure exactly how. If you are unable to change the title of your thread just tag one of the moderators and they will change it for you.

Enjoy your house in Spain. Sounds like the perfect set up for recovery. Take care.

Sounds like you're doing well. Once you're on bonesmart you want to tell everyone about it, don't you? :heehee:

Well been here in Spain two days apart from pushing back in the plane at Gatwick and the captain announces that the French air traffic controllers threw a lightning strike so we had a 2.5 hour slot to wait for take off, however did get to sit in the Co pilots seat of the brand new 2 week old Airbus. So 4.5 hours seated and not too bad on knee. Did get wheelchaired to the plane as sometimes it's a long long walk. However this time it was not far. Said to the nice lady who wheeled me there"ok I will be alright now"and sent her on her way, then stood for another 15 minutes before we got on the plane grrr!! Weather hot and sunny. Been using the gym almost next door for general resistance work. Very very gentle on knee but it's definitely enjoying hot sun and icing. Halved pain meds. Another week of this and knee improving daily. Still no change in flex though extension a little better. Still swollen so as Bonesmart says using the "NO PAIN GAIN" mantra. Slight sunburn today but I can put up with that.

@ChubbsterPT Sounds like you are doing well. If you put the @ symbol in front of people's user name, they will be alerted and you may get more replies that way. :)

Keep that picture of your bike top of mind - it helps to have a solid goal to get you through the tough times. It is a great looking bike!

Enjoy your vacation in Spain!

@beetle71
Thanks for that I will do that from now on. Do you have a 71 Beetle as I have my mum's (RIP) 76 Mk1 Golf in its original VW Rally Yellow. Rare colour. When VW used them in Motorsport that's the colour they used. Ok, breakfast, gym and Spanish sunshine calling.

Hi @ChubbsterPT I do have a 71 Beetle - that it in the picture. I have wanted one since I was title - I remember asking for one for my birthday and Christmas when I was in Grade 1. My husband bought this one for me when we got married in 1990 and were posted in Germany. It was dark green originally but it was a powder pink when we bought it For our 10th anniversary we had it restored and painted it the colour it is now. I don't drive it often - no heat, speedometer does not work, gas gauge does not work, it is old and sentimental so I will not get rid of it. I could not drive it last year because of my knees and I imagine this year will be out as well. The clutch is really stiff.

Good for you for keeping your mom's car. Nice car by the way. It probably provides you with fond memories of her.

Enjoy the Spanish sunshine!

@beetle71

You can get parts for your vdub ok. I am a member of Club GTI but am sure there is a VDub club. Luckily it's my right knee so no clutch problems. My yellow peril has a very quick engine and race clutch which is hefty. Not used in two years as no time.

Well Spain is good and weather was hot again. Gymned again and did 15 minute treadmill up to 4.5kph. Then step ups on around 15 inch step. I had to just assist on right knee leg by holding a rail to balance. Not really for knee but to get glutes growing. Did more squats at 30 and 40kgs but only bending until I felt slight pressure on knee. Once again more for glutes and legs. Then tried a seated quad machine, pushing up with both legs. Very light weights and knee was protesting a bit. Did normal upper body workout. I don't seem to be getting anywhere with more flexion. I know I am being really gentle on my knee but it actually feels stiffer tonight. May just be reacting to exercise as that isn't uncommon with any exercise. Home and iced. Still looks quite swollen and although pain is down swelling isn't. Just being patient.. Got hospital appointment June 2nd so will see what doc says then. I am putting on weight slowly again and eating well. Fitness coming back and I have that gentle upper body muscle ache that is quite nice to live with from mad Personal Trainers like me.
