@darrrryl .... glad you were able to sign in okay! However, one of your posts was in someone else's recovery thread and risked derailing their recovery discussion. Here on BoneSmart we like for everyone to have one recovery thread so that we can keep all your history in a single spot for easy reference. So I have merged that post with the thread you did create. Please post all your updates, questions and concerns regarding your recovery here in this thread. If at any time you'd like to change the title, just post what you want and one of the staff will get it changed.
If you post your complete surgery date and whether you had a right or left TKR, we'll also create a signature for you.
It's not uncommon to still have pain at 4-6 months out or even further out, especially at night. And, actually a desk job is more difficult on your knee that one with a little activity. Those hours of sitting with your leg down and not moving much take a toll. So do try to get up and walk around at least 5 minutes out of every hour.
I'm a Civil Service retiree myself and I know you cannot work when on prescription pain medications. I'm pretty sure most businesses would feel the same way because you are not your best under those conditions. And....that would also mean you'd be driving to and from work on pain meds which I know the law enforcement folks consider "driving under the influence." So it's good that you can manage on non-prescription pain meds. Are you using Tylenol with the Motrin?
but i can sleep with 1/2 or one rtnole#3 pain meds
I'm not understanding this part of your post....it appears to have some typos. Can you clarify what you're taking to sleep?
It is too early for you to be using any of the stair climbers at the gym. The bicycle with no resistance or the treadmill fairly slow and no incline are best. You may be able to work up to the elliptical in a few weeks, but it also should be only at the most basic setting to start with. It's really easy to overdo the exercise at this early stage of recovery. And, since you are working, that's really all the exercise you need right now. You have pain at night and additional activity will only increase that. Just chill and heal for a few more months.
