I have been sleeping in the spare bedroom for the past 7 weeks since TKR. DH and I have a kingsize waterbed. How long should I wait before I sleep in the waterbed? what are the downfalls ? What problems or concerns and suggestions before I attempt to start sleeping in the waterbed ? Help would love to start sleeping with the husband again .... thanks deb

It really depends on how you normally get in and out of your bed. If the knee you put down to get out of bed is your new knee..it may still be sensitive. Only way to find out is to try it. You are not going to damage your new knee...comfort would be the main issue. Try it first with your hubby being there...he can help lift you if need be.

Good luck...I miss my waterbed!:thmb:

Dawnie has one and has slept on it, I believe, since she got home from hospital. If you can manage to get into bed and out again without too much difficulty, then please yourself. Try it and see. There's no medical reason you shouldn't sleep in it.

Jo's right, I have a waterbed and have slept in it since coming home, it's actually easier to get in and out because the sides give and you are nearer the floor. I still have to sleep on my back :hissy:, but I prop myself up on pillows and manage ok.
Go back to your own bed, bet you sleep better with hubby there.

Thanks Dawnie, I will do that tonight for sure.. Although he has gotten use to sleeping in the middle. lol will have to break that bad habit for sure ! will let you all know how it works tonight .... deb

I think that would be comfy ..sleep in it be careful getting out.........sleep tight, sweet dreams......lol..............)

I used to have a waterbed and kind of had to "roll" out of it. I can't imagine doing it with the surgery, BUT if you can do it, more power to you! I think a water bed would be very comfortable to sleep in after surgery. I miss my waterbed!!

I attempted to sleep in the waterbed. slept in it for about 5 hours, had trouble rolling over or moving. (and I am a tosser and turner.) no problem getting in and out of the bed. I curled up in the waterbed alone a little while ago for a short nap and it was soooo nice... ( just me and the cat ) had the entire bed to myself.. ahhhhhh
will sleep in there again... thanks deb

Awwww! This thread makes me miss my waterbed sooo much! I got rid of mine years ago because my knees got so bad...I had a lot of trouble getting out...I would kind of roll out of the bed and then my knees would give out trying to stand from the bed. Now with my strong new knees maybe I could get a new waterbed. I always slept so well in it. I thinK I might go shopping! LOL
