MUA 7 weeks post TKR and the difficulties are evolving.

For many weeks I did no exercises besides walking, quad sets, and seated heel slides.

Quad sets shouldn't stress the knee; they foster waking of the quads for better synchronized firing (especially if you lightly place a couple of fingertips on the sector you want to focus on!), these stronger contractions also strengthen the muscle; they help with extension without over stretching anything. I never counted reps or sets, just did a bunch of them randomly while in my recliner icing.

Seated heel slides, done very slowly and with deep breathing, can slowly progress from "stay in comfort zone" to "spend several seconds in the uncomfortable but not painful zone." Again, I never counted reps or sets.

Once I could get on/off the floor, I added straight leg raises - like quad sets, they don't stress the knee.

I am dumbfounded by all the contradictory theories out there!
Yes! So True.
As you're healing, keep in mind that each recovery is unique. While the BoneSmart philosophy successfully works for many, there will be exceptions. Between the recommendations found here, your surgeon's recovery protocol and any physical therapy you may engage in, the key is to find what works best for you.

You da boss, Tavishbrown!

12 weeks post-op this coming Monday and I THOUGHT the clicking in my knee had gone away, but as of 3 days ago it back which a vengeance. Now it's present not only for every step I take, but I also feel it with every rotation while pedaling the stationary bike. It's annoying!

My first knee is 18 months old, a very happy stable knee, and it still clicks as regularly as a metronome!

Happy Three Month Anniversary!
I hope you're enjoying steady progress since the MUA. Have a great rest of the week!
