I am now almost eight weeks post-op. My new knee is doing well. I haven't needed pain meds since the end of the second week and haven't used ice for the past few days. My main problem is not being able to sleep anywhere but in my recliner, which is mainly due to shoulder pain (fractured both...
Today I had my 6-week post-op appointment. My surgeon wasn't available because he was operating on someone in an emergency situation. His colleague, a lovely young doctor, pleasantly surprised me with her hands-off approach. She didn't touch my knee without first asking permission, and that was...
I've just been having a bit of a meltdown, including tears. One of my cats decided that the bedroom floor was preferable to the litter box and I couldn't bend over properly to clean it up. I called out for my partner but he was in his workshop with loud music playing and couldn't hear me. The...
I forgot to mention that I am also still recovering from fracturing both shoulders last year. One needed a reverse replacement and the other was left to heal on its own. So I still have to sleep in the recliner because of that, but because my lower back won't get with the program, plus the knee...
@Sara61
I tried the pillow fix last week and couldn't last more than a few minutes before I needed to roll over, so ended back in the recliner. I'm going to give it another try tonight. I will let you know how I go!
I am 5 weeks post-op now. No longer using the walker but I still need a walking stick a lot of the time. Most of the discomfort I have now is due to lower back pain and sciatica. I have a long-term disc problem which makes it impossible to sleep lying on my back, but I can't comfortably sleep...
I'm almost 5 weeks post-op and I sometimes experience what you are describing. For me it seems to come on when my leg has been too straight for too long. I'm assuming it's something muscular. Have you tried icing your knee? I find it really helps!
Sharp pain is sometimes due to nerve "zingers". Ice is your best friend. If it is due to a retained stitch it might work its way out. Get the nurse to check it again next time she visits. As Sun catcher said, please don't pull on anything. You could cause bleeding or infection.
@sistersinhim
It sure does! I have found it also takes away the itch caused by the wound healing.
But that brings me to another question. I have a lot of dry flaky skin and scabs on my incision, and they keep catching on whatever pants I am wearing, and it's very irritating. I mostly wear...
Well, my knee is almost back to what it was a few days ago before I did something to aggravate it. I have been resting 90% of the time with my leg elevated, using ice packs and also rubbing anti-inflammatory ointment on the sore area at the back of my knee.
So it looks like I won't need to make...
Thinking back to what I was doing before the back of my knee started hurting, I had done just a few straight leg raises. So now I'm wondering if I irritated something. All I'm doing today is elevating and icing, so hopefully that will help. If it's still really sore on Monday I will make an...
