Hi...just pulled the trigger and scheduled my second THR for April 13. While I'm not looking forward to the recovery again, I can't wait to be on the other side, and finally getting better instead of worse!
Thank you everyone for your responses. There is definitely an upside to doing the second hip sooner rather than later....I'm hating living in fear, wondering if vacations I plan, etc can actually happen or if I will be in pain and have to cancel. Same with pilates.....I was excited to be back...
Hi! So I’m just over 4 months and the surgical hip is doing well, scar is still purple and just when I sit a long time it takes me a few steps to kinda straighten out and walk normal but for the most part all is good.
I’ve started working out again, mainly walking, spin class once a week and...
Oh @ssbluewolf I'm so sorry you had to throw in a move so soon after surgery! That's a TOUGH one! Glad family is around to help. We are the same age ;) Soooo many people still cannot believe that I really needed a THR. I know for me even amidst all the pain, it was SUPER HARD for me to...
Just a quick update....I'm now at 6 1/2 weeks. The last few days I've pretty much completely gotten off the cane. I limp slightly when I first start to walk but after a few steps its pretty darn good. I did a ton of walking Sunday as we went up to a local amusement park, Santa's Village (so...
Hoping for a smooth surgery tomorrow! I also checked in at 530a...early! But I figure my surgeon was nice and fresh :) 2 THR's in one year....that's a lot to deal with but YES it will be all over and you will be on the road to a full recovery with no more nagging hip pain. I also will need...
I used to be a tennis player, but haven't in about 8 years, it was just getting too hard on my body so I would imagine that after a THR it can be really hard, depending on how you play the game. I wasn't a great doubles player, so my game involved a lot of running and lots of sudden stops...
I know there will be lots of various aches and pains after surgery. Has anyone else noticed their opposite foot, mainly my big toe joint, hurting?? I'm sure its how I'm walking but man lately its bothering me. It worries me as I know my mom has arthritis in her big toe joint and just hope...
@Marvin L I'm still limping :( I feel like I've went from walking like a peg leg pirate to having a stick up my rear so I'm not sure that's an improvement! ;) I've been back in the gym a few times and have done the bike and even the elliptical, but just walking seems to be my biggest struggle...
@Corey W so I've been back in the gym twice now....I've just done the recumbent bike both times, I even increased the resistance and it still felt good. I did the elliptical as well but did it turning the pedals backwards as going forward felt like it pulled at the muscles where the doc went in...
I'm ahead of you and still hobbling with a limp so use the cane still. Its frustrating since I really don't feel I have much if any pain when walking but just can't seem to walk straight. I guess its better than last week so hopefully it won't be too long before the limp is gone....???
Sounds like you are having an amazing recovery. I was hoping to more be along the speed of your recovery but I'm over 5 weeks now and still walk around like a peg leg pirate. I really enjoyed my spin classes pre-op so I'm hoping I can get back to classes in a month or two. I'm going to try...
@Marvin L yep I think many of us California’s actually get excited over earthquakes ;). Gives us a little excitement! I would probably crack up at someone yelling in a movie theater!! Too funny.
I’m going to try to ride a recumbent bike at the gym Monday... I’ll let you know how it goes. I...
Hit the 5 week mark yesterday. I am very happy that I am basically pain free and I sleep fairly well at night now without taking any pain meds. I do toss and turn a bit, alternating from flat on my back to rolling over on my good leg with a pillow between my legs, but that it really to...
