THR Phoenixx29 has a new hip!

If it was up to me @Jaycey @Mojo333 I would have ditched the stockings ages ago. But I'm dealing with a nagging husband who is convinced it would kill me not to wear them. .. I told him I need wear them for 4 weeks, so only a few more days to go. After all I am still taking the blood thinner...

THR Phoenixx29 has a new hip!

@Mojo333 I was a bit naughty last night. At 4:30 in the morning I still could not get to sleep - but I was incredibly tired. It was the compression stockings which were bothering me; in the end I managed to persuade my husband to get them off me. It will now be my fault if I get DVT apparently...

Fear and questions re: scheduled TKR

Hi there. I have also been borderline anaemic both for my BTKR and my recent THR. I had to sign a consent form to agree to blood transfusion , which was in the end was not necessary. Both times I was prescribed iron tablets. After my hip surgery my haemoglobin level was at 8.9, although there...

THR Phoenixx29 has a new hip!

The appointment with the dermatologist was interesting. Apparently the vasculitic rash might not be that at all. She mentioned what she thought it might be, but I was too tired to remember the name. Next step is a skin biopsy to verify her diagnosis, which will probably be done next week. The...

THR Phoenixx29 has a new hip!

Feeling marginally less stiff today, and can get around with just one crutch indoors. only 2 more days and I should be able to start my injections again. @Dive17 I have been off my RA meds for 2 months now as I developed a vasculitic rash. I was put om a course of steroids which helped with...

    Steps

Hi SADD, don't worry about the stairs. The physio at the hospital will show you how to negotiate those. I had BTKR, was in hospital for 5 days. When I got home I went straight upstairs to get some sleep. That's 13 stairs to climb. Now, I suffer from very aggressive rheumatoid arthritis, and...

THR Phoenixx29 has a new hip!

So I am nearly at the 3 week mark. Doesn't time fly! I had been feeling a bit despondent about my progress, but I think I am actually doing quite well. My main problem is that the rash, which suddenly developed in November has just started to come back. I had already a scheduled appointment...

THR Phoenixx29 has a new hip!

Another sleepless night, but at least I'm catching up on some reading. Sleep seems to come in the early hours, so I just have a bit of a lie in. I had a bit of an ouch moment when I twisted my right hip a little too far; that just served as a reminder to take it slow. The pain is well...

THR Phoenixx29 has a new hip!

A little update from me... I woke up on Wednesday thinking I would never be ready to leave on Thursday; but had my Xrays done, and managed to get to the bathroom without assistance hanging on to the walker for dear life. Then the OT came round and made me do it all again, practiced transferring...

THR Phoenixx29 has a new hip!

thanks for all the support. @jaydub63 I had the blood pressure issue before, and it's finally settling - so all is good. @lucinda007 I had the posterior approach @Josephine Actually they are the opposite of mean. The block hadn't worn off yet, so the paracetamol was just a top up. They did...

THR Phoenixx29 has a new hip!

I've done it! After all the worries I did get my new hip this morning. I can finally relax. All went well, blood pressure a bit low, but they are not concerned as I am feeling well. had lots of lovely cups of tea, and so far am very comfortable. the spinal (nerve block?) has not worn off yet...

    Got the jitters.....

only just over 12 hours now before I have to get up and ready..... i had a look at my previous recovery thread. Interestingly it seems I spent the most of the first week home asleep. I didn't really remember it that way. I was probably knocked out by the painkillers. So there goes my plan on...

    Got the jitters.....

@hikejunkie It's a bit odd it's not really that the pain is getting worse, it's more that the hip feels a lot more unstable, and there's a dull aching feeling - I have been in more pain before, but honestly I can't wait to have this over and done with.

    Got the jitters.....

@Jacey at the speed I'm going at the moment it will definitely feel like racing down the corridors once I am up and about! But I promise to take it easy - it served me well during my recovery from BTKR. The surgeon reckons the hip will be a doddle in comparison. No pressure then....

    Got the jitters.....

@Susan209 when I had my pre-op for my knees, and the nurse went through the fasting protocol, she said remember, drink clear liquid only until 6am on the day - and that does not mean gin :-).
