THR Textbook recovery almost 3 weeks post op THR

Thanks @ddj , @Hipster Girl , and @Hip Hip Hooray! for your encouraging words. Taking a shower is fantastic, and so much faster than the old sponge bath in the sink method! I still have a bunch of sticky residue from prior tape usage on my hip, and haven't been able to get all of it off. Have...

    THR CatLady1 - recovery thread

@CatLady1 I think you'll find using stairs normally isn't hard. The first time I went upstairs with reciprocal steps it was unintentional - just sort of on "autopilot" and then I realized it was easy and natural.

    THR Goldpm's Recovery Thread

Thanks, @goldpm. That sounds like a good approach. Will definitely use a rack or have someone hand me the bar. I'm still not comfortable picking things up off the floor yet, so not ready to do that with weights :) I hope your recovery continues to go so well!

THR Textbook recovery almost 3 weeks post op THR

Went for my 3-week post op appt a couple days ago. The PA said knee pain is often due to a small leg length discrepancy but said usually after 6 weeks and with PT things often improve a lot. I hope so! @CricketHip and @Hip Hip Hooray! it is good to hear that your knee pain got so much better...

    THR Goldpm's Recovery Thread

@goldpm Your recovery is going so well! I'm sure it helped that you are young and were so fit to start. I too am anxious to do some upper body work. I am used to working out with free weights at the YMCA. Do you know whether bench presses are safe at this point? I assume biceps and triceps work...

@ddj I am not having the muscle spasms you mentioned; that sounds really painful! I wonder what is causing them? I am able to avoid the glute pain with occasional Norco, and am down to just 2-3 each day. I just picked up a pillow for behind my knees at Walgreens and will also try it between my...

THR Textbook recovery almost 3 weeks post op THR

@Hip Hip Hooray! Yes it is great to be post op! It's interesting to me that even with my good recovery I have lots of ups and downs and changes in energy and ambition levels. The information on this site has helped me accept this though. @Josephine, my PT agrees with you that walking is the best...

THR Early Christmas Present - New Right Hip

@NigelTufnel, I have enjoyed the account of your hospital stay and your progress so far. I could totally relate to the post-catheter elimination challenge! My nurse kept threatening me as well, giving me a deadline for success or else she'd put it back in. I finally had a little success while...

THR Textbook recovery almost 3 weeks post op THR

Thanks, all for the support. I did have another question: has anyone else had knee pain after their hip replacement? It seems as if the alignment in my leg has changed a bit and this is affecting my knee quite a bit. In fact, my knee is my major source of pain right now. I am hoping with time...

Hello all, Thanks for all the information that is available on this sight! I love how everyone is so supportive of each other. My name is Barb and I had an anterior right THR on 12/15/15. Before the surgery I kept singing to myself "all I want for Christmas is a new right hip, a new right hip"...
