TKR Sky Blue's recovery - both TKRs

I had my TKRs done seven weeks apart, and I’m very happy with the results. I struggled a bit, because I had more pain with the second surgery than with the first - and I got discouraged. After three weeks and some PT, I’m feeling great, and SO glad to have it finished. I hope that you have good...

I’ve absolutely cried at least twice since this second surgery - pain PLUS frustration...

    TKR lindakay’s recovery thread

I’m eleven days post-op now on my second TKR. I’ve been diligent in doing my PT exercises, but my flexion measurement isn’t improving much. There is SO MUCH more pain/discomfort this time, compared to my first TKR. I’m still taking my narcotic pain meds, and having to ice and elevate almost all...

Thanks for the encouragement! This group is so helpful! For those of you who have experienced pain in your upper thigh from the tourniquet, how long did it last? I’m on day four post-op, and I can’t do a straight leg raise at all because of this soreness...

    TKR lindakay’s recovery thread

Well, I’m home from the hospital now from my second TKR (surgery on Wednesday, 10/16.) I could tell almost immediately that this one was going to be more painful than the first. It’s not horrible, but definitely requiring more pain medication. The surgeon thinks that the nerve block didn’t work...

    TKR lindakay’s recovery thread

Hello, everyone! I’m five weeks out from my right TKR, and still doing very well. My PT is great, and I’ve been able to pedal the bike for 10 minutes at a time. My flexion is at 108 degrees, and I can get my knee fully extended/straight. Almost all of my discomfort is in the non-operative knee...

    TKR lindakay’s recovery thread

Hello, all! I had my two-week appointment with my surgeon yesterday, and he’s happy with my ROM. I’m still having very little pain, and only taking ibuprofen occasionally. Here is my problem, though.... My stitches were removed and replaced with steri-strips. Both the surgeon and the nurse said...

    TKR lindakay’s recovery thread

At PT today, flexion was 78, and yesterday it was 72. (I’m feeling really sore now, though.) Is that reasonable for 6 days post-op? My PT seemed satisfied, but I don’t know if she was just being extra encouraging...

    TKR lindakay’s recovery thread

Day 5 post-op, and I’m still feeling pretty lucky. I had another PT visit this morning, and I was able to do the exercises much more easily. She seemed pleased, and didn’t push too hard. I walked outside for a little bit, and put on a load of laundry. Just icing and elevating - able to go...

Pain is still under control, but my sleep schedule is seriously messed up. Is this common?

I had my first in-home PT today, and that was a little rough - mostly just the “heel slides” were painful. I have been able to get around the house pretty well with the walker, and even walk outside a little bit. Pain is manageable, feeling good

Still not having terrible pain, and I was able to do steps today! My big, bulky dressing is off, and it looks like I will have a shower and go home this afternoon. So far, this has been much easier than I was expecting - but I know it will probably get worse...

    Surgery today...

Thanks for all the well-wishes and encouragement! Recovery so far has been pretty great. My pain has been well controlled with medicine and ice, and I have been able to walk many laps around the hospital hallway with my walker. I even did steps this morning! The doctor has released me to go home...

    TKR lindakay’s recovery thread

Had my right TKR yesterday afternoon, and I’m having surprisingly little pain right now. I know that it will get worse once the nerve block wears off, but I’m happy so far. PT came today and had me walk around in the hallway, and it wasn’t terrible. I’m feeling a little bit nervous about going...
