Hippies scars - post your badges of honor here: NO CHIT-CHAT HERE PLEASE

Had my dressing off today, two and a half weeks after the op. This one was glued which looks much neater than my first which was stapled. The weird lines in the bottom right are just creases where I was sat on my clothes! :)

    THR 2nd hip replacement

Hi everyone, had my 2nd hip replacement yesterday and it feels okay, much better than the 1st one! I had the 1st done two and a half years ago and the joint is fine but I can't walk without a stick as the leg is too weak. I had really bad pain after the op and vomiting and retention from the...

THR 19 months later and still struggling

Thank you for all your replies, it's helpful to hear other people's experiences. I went to see my doctor today and she is contacting my consultant again to request an MRI. But she said most of the time her requests for MRIs are rejected these days, so I'll see what happens. I'm also worried...

THR 19 months later and still struggling

It was very gentle exercising, I didn't over do it. It never feels any different, if I exercise or not, it just won't hold me upright for more than a few seconds.

THR 19 months later and still struggling

I posted here 5 months after my right hip replacement because my right side was not strengthening after the op in May 2022. It's now 19 months and it's hardly improved since then. I can only walk for one minute without my stick as the muscles get weaker with each step. I did the exercises as...

THR 19 months later and still struggling

I was just hoping to hear from someone with the same experience, who could reassure me that it will get better eventually, or prepare me for it not getting completely back to normal. I wasn't too worried until I saw my physio last time, and he seemed concerned and thought I should be doing...

THR 19 months later and still struggling

I had my right THR beginning of May and the muscles are still very weak. I have exercised and walked, and it is improving, but very slowly. I have to walk with a cane if going any distance. I can only just hold myself upright when standing on that leg alone, it just won't hold my weight. I'm 55...

THR What were your pre-op symptoms?

You just described how I was before I had my right hip surgery. It was 14 weeks ago and it feels great now, just working on building the muscles again. I saw my surgeon a couple of weeks ago and he said I will get my left hip done within 5 months. I was worried about the first one, and...

    THR Pre-admission

Thanks, but they postponed it until 3rd May. Just hope they don't do it again, don't want to keep isolating!

2022 April Rainbows - Are you having hip surgery in April?

Hi, having my first THR on the right side on the 28th April.

    THR Pre-admission

Yes, good idea. I might be able to do that with a couple of my classes. Not all of them, but it will be better than nothing. It will probably get cancelled anyway, I spoke to someone yesterday who just had hers cancelled after having her pre-admission three months ago.

    THR Pre-admission

Thanks for the advice, and I'll have a read through the links. I will get it done, I don't know how long I might have to wait if I don't take this opportunity.

    THR Pre-admission

Thank you for the link Jaycey. I'm going to have to discuss this with my boss, she is of course not in work at the moment. The timing is terrible, there were three tutors in our department, one left and one has just gone on long term sick, so there's only me. My boss has applied for a new...
