    2014 November Knee

Hi Tom. Best of luck with your new knee. Make sure you get your home set up for when you get home. You will put as much weight as you can tolerate on your new knee, it is not like an ACL where we need not put strain on the knee. When you get off the operating table, that knee is good to go...

New member. Replacement knees again. Please help me...

Don't waste time going through the process. Just think of all the things you can do in 3 months, why waste it on trying to get back up to speed. Best of luck with the cancer treatments. Cheers, David

    Allergic to nickle

Bussylizzi, That is some history. The issue that I cannot put my finger on is, if someone is allergic to an element, wouldn't there be other symptoms in body and not just the knee joint. Wouldn't the femur or tibia have some reaction. The Mayo Clinic, one of the best in the States, will not...

    Allergic to nickle

I have a patient to was off the board when tested for nickel hypersensitivity. She had her TKR done in Feb 2014. She was an excellent patient, did all of her home ex and worked hard on obtaining range of motion. The best we were able to achieve: 100deg of flex, 0deg ext. She was complained of...

    TKR Two Stage Native LTKR

I agree with everyone else. You are the customer and you should always error on the safe side. There are a few things that could be concerning and you need to have it checked out. It is also a learning situation for the OS to see how the knee held up. Like they say, "trained professionals...

    LTKR scheduled for October 8th

In recovery if you would want. You want to use your muscles to squeeze the drainage from your knee. The more quad sets (tightening your thigh) and calf pumps you perform , will assist in keeping your swelling down. Good Luck, David

    LTKR scheduled for October 8th

While you are in a recliner, perform calf pumps. Flexing your ankles back and forth, and put some force into the motion both ways. The problem is gravity. There are still fluids coming from the bones and circulatory system. It all goes down to your ankles and feet. I always suggest 1000 calf...

Planning for TKR one at a time four weeks apart

Bob I think it is a great idea. You meet your deductible and you get a 2 for 1 rehab. One co pay for both knees. I would think the timing is going to be tight. It would have been a better financial plan having them done in July. I am assuming your deductible starts over again in January...

    Finally on the other side...

Take one day at a time, try to perform more things on your own. Putting your pants on is an exercise. Putting your shoes on is a big goal. Remember: Life is therapy, it is not all straight leg raises and heel slides. Getting into the car without hitting your foot on the door is therapy...

    TKR Physio left me disheartened

I have my patients set a goal for themselves with a date. A goal without a date, is a dream. David

    TKR Physio left me disheartened

We are all proud of you. You have to respect healing. Cycling usually requires about 100deg of flexion, just a FYI. When the body feels things are safe, you will be able to do more activities. You are on your way to an improvement of quality of life. David

    TKR Physio left me disheartened

If you could get a 4 wheel walker would be the best. Using this type of walker allows you to regain your normal gait pattern. I stress to my population, one of the most important activities is to walk with a normal gait. An abnormal gait leads to problems in the hips and back. Keep moving...
