    THR Makoplasty Recovery in CT

I might play it safe on the stomach laying, the problem is getting into that position without twisting the hip too much. I am a stomach sleeper too though so I definitely switched back to that position after consulting my doc about it a couple months later. :thumb:

    THR 2nd hip done

Unfortunately @Poppet is correct and my surgeon is quite elusive, happened last time as well, he kept sending word that he'd swing by and never did. Busy man! However, it seems the doc on call and I have compromised. I've been allowed to keep the morphine for an extra couple of days and will...

    THR 2nd hip done

Yes my recovery time isn't normal, nor is it expected to be. In the docs words when he briefly spoke to my mother after the procedure, I could expect to be in the hospital for at least a good 10 days. Last hip I was in for a couple of weeks. So my pain and recovery is expected to take longer...

    THR 2nd hip done

I had my 2nd (left) hip replaced on Wednesday! Was supposed to get a chance to speak with my doctor the next day but haven't heard from him yet. As far as I can tell everything was successful though. How long is it normal to be allowed to keep the patient controlled morphine connected? I'm...

Crossing ankles? What if you can't physically do the hip restrictions?

While I was in the hospital every PT just put socks with rubber on the bottom on me and said that's all they wanted me to wear. They worked perfectly well, no slipping whatsoever. I remember being glad that I didn't have to bother with putting shoes on every time I wanted to stand up. Skate...

    Pre-Op Class

Hope you had time to get the necessities and that your surgery went well.

    Pre-Op Class

You should really not be leaving it so last minute. Get started already on the things listed at least, they are the most essential. Don't leave it until the day before. The first place or two you go to may not have them in stock.

    Pre-Op Class

That does seem strange but just do some research online (like asking here :) ). It would have been a bit less hectic if you had asked sooner! What I can think of off the top of my head that might want are: Raised toilet seat, sock-assist, Long handle reacher, crutches or walker. Hopefully others...

Crossing ankles? What if you can't physically do the hip restrictions?

@Zebra Well I personally can't raise it very far. Not more than 90 degrees. However, it was much less than that before the surgery!! Believe me it does make a difference, and yes that was one of my aspirations of the surgery to gain a lot more movement in leaning forward.. but even though I...

Crossing ankles? What if you can't physically do the hip restrictions?

@Zebra Yes I can drive. My range got slightly better in bending forward/raising the leg, but not as much as I was hoping for. I gained a lot more with rotation inwards. Your muscles won't be quite so tight anymore after you wake up!! First they're gonna cut into them, and then move/stretch your...

Crossing ankles? What if you can't physically do the hip restrictions?

Yes my leg is rotated more inwards now and noticeably straighter looking! They basically turned the whole leg putting it in a better position. When I stand, the foot points almost straight. Whereas the unoperated is still pointing outwards at around 45 degrees or so. With that being said, I...

Crossing ankles? What if you can't physically do the hip restrictions?

Hi, I had a very similar situation with my hips being fused and had to cross my legs when sitting. Did the first hip which went very successfully and now waiting for the second. It has been half a year now and I've gone back to crossing my legs because it's safe to do now and I still can't sit...
