Hey All, just a quick update! I cycled from London to Paris over the weekend. That’s 287 miles in 3 days on an 11 week old hip!! I literally can’t explain how proud I am of my new hip and I! Sore legs now but totally worth it xx
Oh gosh please don’t feel like a slacker!! I think because I was so active before the op my muscles have remembered but there are still things I’m struggling with like range of motion.. I always refused to let having a hip replacement so young hold me back. I’ve had a lot of pitying looks from...
Hey All, just an update on what I’ve been up to. So 4 weeks post op I started back in the gym doing light cycles and light upper body workouts which I slowly increased. At 6 weeks I did my first outdoor 13 mile cycle and increased my upper body weights and started working my abs. 8 weeks post op...
@Going4fun I was still very active before surgery and just worked through the pain because I wanted my leg to be strong for surgery! I’m glad to hear that you were able to dance with no pain, that’s great news. I’ve already done my first outdoor cycle of 13.7 miles and I spent three days without...
@Going4fun thanks for the reply. You are right, it is a big operation and I don’t want to do too much but I was a really active person pre op so it’s really hard not to think I won’t get back to that.
@hbl thanks! I hope your recovery is going well. I was super strong before surgery which I think has helped me quite a bit to be honest. I really struggled in the first few weeks but in the last 2 weeks I’ve made leaps and bounds. I think because my physio gave me more confidence to be honest...
Hello! Thanks for all the replies, I’ve been to the gym 4 days this week. On Monday I cycled 3 miles with VERY light resistance in 15 minutes and today I managed 3.5 miles in the same time so I’m getting stronger. My physio has given me exercises to regain the strength lost in my glute and I’m...
UPDATE: So I saw the physio yesterday and she is honestly amazing. She specialises in hips and has gone through hip surgery herself. She taught me how to safely get on and off a bike a long with other things to strength my glute muscle or lack of at the moment. So today, I went to the gym and...
I don’t have any experience or advice but I’d like to follow your thread as we will be trying for baby number 2 after summer and this baby will be post LTHR so I’m keen to see people’s responses.
Congratulations on your pregnancy x
@Jaycey I had my THR at UCLH
@Scarab yes I think I was being really optimistic with my expectations. I think I was also naive about how quickly I would recover. Someone genuinely told that because I was young id be back to normal at 6 weeks but 3 weeks post op I can feel that I won’t be back...
@Jaycey thanks for the reply! Oh gosh a collapsed hip sounds awfully painful. How are both your hips now?
I stopped doing the exercises that the PT gave me on the advice of @Josephine and I’ve had to take two trips into London to get to the hospital I was operated in so lots of walking!
@Jaycey did you find that you had more mobility in your hip than pre op? I’m not aiming to do the splits or anything but I’d like some more rotation in my hips. At the moment I feel like that is just totally unachievable, so looking for some reassurance that it is possible x
Thanks @Layla I was a little gutted but then I’d rather move the event and have a healthy hip then take the risk and something awful happens. Luckily the Eurostar will let us move our tickets!
Yes everything else is going great, the doctor said my incision is healing really well and is really...
UPDATE: didn’t get to see surgeon today but one of his doctors who told me she would not recommend me cycling London to Paris so it’s a no go on the cycling front. She has however told me that if I want to go back to the gym to do upper body I could return tomorrow.. not that I’m going too. I...
Hello! I have a question. I’ve seen a number of xrays on BoneSmart and the majority of them do not have a screw into the pelvis. I just want to know if anyone knows any reason why a screw would have been used in my surgery and what implications that has? Or benefits?
