THR Schaargi Hip #2 Nov. 2

@Schaargi Good to hear that your nerve damage is recovered. My left without nerve damage has bigger numb area so I now concluded that the surgery itself will cause some level of numbness and it will take time to recover and for the nerve to rebuild. It is hard to tell if it is from nerve damage...

THR chialiyu's recovery thread - 1/12 LTHR - Anterior Approach

@Layla Thank you for the warm wishes! These couple weeks I have been feeling some discomfort around the left groin area when I walk. It is not sharp pain. The feeling is more like tendon or muscle tightness around the hip joint area on the front side. Is it normal during this stage of recovery...

Sorry about the late reply. I haven't been using weight. These days I do light squat and bridge. Recovery has been going well. I took a 7 hours road trip 2 weeks ago - bike around Lake Michigan felt great.

THR Should full ROM ever be expected?

@Horse Chick Comparing my right hip (THR in July 2020) and my left one (THR in Jan 2021), I can tell a big difference 6 months could make. I did both with anterior approach. I can see the muscle and tendon around my surgical site much smoother on the right and still lumpy and fibrous on the...

@Celle Oops - Just saw your message. I used the ankle weights for a couple times in the last 2 weeks. So far it feels OK. I didn't get sore, etc because of them. If it is the case, may I keep using it in moderation?

@Layla I just realized it is my 2 months anniversary so hop on to say hello to my hippie friends. :) Both hips are doing well. Continue to improve and I feel they are more natural everyday. Just got a set a of ankle weights to exercise my quads. Looking forward for more outdoor walk days as...

THR chialiyu's recovery thread - 1/12 LTHR - Anterior Approach

I will be 7 weeks in 2 days. Woohoo! Yesterday I took my first long walk after surgery. The reason I waited this long is mainly due to the MN weather. Walking outdoors felt very different from walking indoors. I had to concentrate on how the muscle worked with each other and maintain balance for...

THR chialiyu's recovery thread - 1/12 LTHR - Anterior Approach

One more week goes by. Today I did my first grocery shopping after surgery. It took about 3 hours including the car ride. Now my upper groin feels very sore when I sit. Ouch. Other than that, this week has been good. I resumed PT everyday. Felt muscle tightness at the front. Doing bridge and...

THR 40 year old with recent hip replacement

@MetalBeard Similar to what @djklaugh said, 3rd day post surgery your body is still trying to recover from the blood loss, trauma, etc experienced during surgery. Take it easy and give yourself as much rest as possible. Don't need to worry about PT at this point. Your muscle probably will be...

THR chialiyu's recovery thread - 1/12 LTHR - Anterior Approach

Hi hippie friends and forum admins, Happy Valentine's Day! :martini: Finally recovered from my "near fall" experience and feel like back on track again. I start to practice alternating legs going up and down stairs, with rail of course this time. Anyone feels their hip is bigger now with...

THR chialiyu's recovery thread - 1/12 LTHR - Anterior Approach

Hi @Layla , After ice and elevate for a couple days, my mid thigh was getting better. However the pain moved to other places like areas around my knee, my lower back, etc. It is very weird. I don't know if it is related to my near fall experience or part of the normal healing. Trying not to...

THR chialiyu's recovery thread - 1/12 LTHR - Anterior Approach

I am able to walk slowly after icing for a couple hours. I guess it is easier to overestimate how strong the new joint/leg is and start to do things I used to do without paying attention. Lesson learned. I am so glad I didn't actually land on my new hip - won't be good. Thank you @Jaycey and...

THR chialiyu's recovery thread - 1/12 LTHR - Anterior Approach

Week 3 Day 5: Just as I was happy things are on track, I slipped this morning when going downstairs. I was carrying my laptop on one hand and tried to go down alternating instead of operative leg first (without holding both rails). The first step was good but slipped on the next one. Thanks...

Week 3 Day 4: This week my rash got much better. I stopped regular icing 2 days ago and so far it is doing well. Stay most of the time on my recliner couch. Still don't feel comfortable if I sit for too long (more than an hour). Switch to sit on my right side helps. Tried to walk upstairs...
