Hoping to have my THR in July when I can afford to take the time off work (no sick pay). My surgeon said it was up to me to decide when the pain and restriction in my quality of life got so bad that having the operation was preferable. I've got to that point. I'd have it done tomorrow if i...
Sorry just trying to be helpful. If you ask others for their experiences and you don't want people to suggest what you have already tried, I suggest maybe you put in your original post what you have already tried which doesn't work for you, then people won't suggest it. As I say, just trying to...
@M1ke - if you hate TV do you like films ? Or music ? Or "talking books" ? Or puzzles or computer games ? I'm hoping to spend some of my recovery time listening to some music CDs that I have shamefully neglected and haven't played for ages. Like others have said, it doesn't matter if those...
I'm planning on knitting lots of very cute little animals to sell in aid of my favourite local animal charity. I have absolutely no idea at all why. I haven't knitted a thing for a good 30 years and even then I was no good at it. For some reason the thought of doing it really helps though. I...
@DrToonz (not a real doctor apparently :-)) I love reading your posts thank you. I'm hoping for THR in July when I can afford to take the time off work. Just wanted to say - the pain in my hips, running right down my legs, keeps me awake a large part of most nights, pain meds or not. I wouldn't...
Hey @shrinkette - I've not had the pleasure of meeting you but I can tell from your posts that you are a smart and resourceful woman. I haven't had my THR yet but I know from previous surgeries that the waiting is the worst bit. You'll be just fine with or without the chair, and regardless of...
Ooh sounds like our house !! Stress we used to cope with seems so much worse at the mo with my pain and grumpiness !!! Lots of best wishes @shrinkette you'll be posting on the post op thread before you know it
Hello friends. I wonder if anyone else has been through this ? I have very very flat feet and pronated ankles and one leg longer than the other. I had some orthotic insoles made for me by a fantastic podiatrist about 12 years ago which changed my life and improved my walking and my...
@karisa7174 - my THR is due hopefully in July when I can afford to take the time off work. And I still have days when I cry about the very thought of it. Heaven knows what I'll be like nearer the time ! But I think it's natural to be scared of the unknown and maybe to feel a bit angry and a bit...
Thanks @Doyley. I could do without putting any extra weight on too ! Although its wine not beer in my case - the only painkiller that really works ;-) Maybe I'll bite the bullet and give the gabapentin a go though...
@Doyley thanks so much for your reply. I was given gabapentin at the pain clinic but have to say when I read the info leaflet and researched it a bit, the massive list of possible side effects put me off so I didn't take it ! Did you find you suffered any ill effects from it ? And if you don't...
Thanks all for the very helpful replies. I think I am just going to have to grin and bear it and wait for the new hip next year ! I have been to the pain clinic at my local hospital several times and they were of absolutely no help whatsoever :-(
