THR Becki's Both Hips Done in 2019 Recovery Thread

Five Years Later...how is it going? I had me left and right hip THR in 2019. I hesitated to leave an update here at the end of 2024. I thought, "who cares" but then I thought of how much the stories of other long term recoveries helped me decide THR on both hips was the thing for me to do. So...

    THR Hopefully Hippy Recovery

Hi @SurreyGirl ~ You had asked about exercises that others are doing during lockdown so I thought I'd share. I've found lifting weights to be very doable and helpful as well as walking either on the street in the morning or evening, or hiking on the weekends. For weight lifting I've started...

THR Becki's Both Hips Done in 2019 Recovery Thread

Hi @Layla Thanks so much for the call out on my 4th month! Well things have progressed along well. I took the advice here of NOT doing PT early on, just letting my body heal and just walking and its been great! This past Sunday I went for a 1:15 hike up and down hills in the woods around here...

Happy Saturday @Mojo333! That's good to know I wasn't the only one with that. In retrospect I wish I could have had 6 weeks off instead of 4 so I could let that brain fog dissipate a bit more. I did go for the fish though like you shared with me. I started eating sardines everyday :) Its...

Hi @VSlowLife ~ Happy Saturday! I looked into the original reason the app was created. Apparently it was created for public speaking, so that speakers would know when their time was running down but not have an audible alarm interrupting their talk.

Thanks so much @Layla for my one-month anniversary greeting! And thanks @CricketHip for sharing your experience. I liked how you wrote "second hip made me rethink things" … I too was thinking that a few times! I just kept reminding myself it was indeed worth it to add life to my years :) Week 1...

THR Becki's Both Hips Done in 2019 Recovery Thread

Well day 1 went ok! I have a special parking spot at work now that is next to the entrance, which was so nice. Maneuvering on crutches at work went well. Like you @Chris1962 I used a small backpack to haul around a notepad for meetings, or food. I put my lunch in a plastic Rubbermaid type bowl...

This just an official THANK YOU to @Chris1962 for her post about overdoing it. If she hadn't have noted her experience about overdoing it, I know I would not have thought twice here, this evening, and would have overdone it as well  I have to go back to work tomorrow, so, thank you...

    THR Five more days

Best of luck to you @GoldieLox :yes!: I took a very similar path to yours: diet changes, strength training, meds, etc. and they all worked then all of a sudden they didn't work. Like you I had followed a healthy active lifestyle but both my hips succumbed to osteoarthritis and, like you, I had...

Thanks @Layla You were spot on. My surgeon's PA just wrote back to say "Totally normal symptoms! Just try and continue to move and ice;" Phew! :) :-) (: Ok let the healing continue :ice::ice:

I'm getting there @FCBayern :) I am beginning to see a bit light at the end of the tunnel. I'm walking more with my crutches, and that's been great to slowly build up my strength there. I'm not at the 20 or 30 min. point but if I've learned anything here at BoneSmart it is that I need to listen...

Bilateral THR Double in December - Done!

Hi @jenTjenT I hope the staples removal went ok! I had staples like the removed from my body from a different, not joint related, surgery, and while it was weird, it wasn't painful. I hope the same was true for you!

Thanks @Elf1 I've gotten so much amazing advice, a depth of moral support for this whole process that I never expected that's been healing by itself, and real sense of this is all going to be okay. I have to admit that while I was looking forward to my December hip replacement, I was scared...
