Hi,I am3 years post TKR and still have pain and swelling issues . I had post TKR pulmonary embolisms so my recovery and rehab was delayed and complicated by coumadin . I have a problem with my knee..when I lay on my side the knee cap somtimes slides a bit and it is excruciating to bend the knee until if mves back in place . It isnt a big shift but it is enough to make me miserable when it happens . My otho told me that my patella is tracking fine so does anyone have this issue ?

Re: Knee cap slides our of place

Well, I guess I would ask another ortho for a second opinion in this case. You are not an idiot and if you think there is a tracking problem with the knee, you need to check on it. I would ask someone who is not in the practice with your current OS for an opinion.

My knee had some scar tissue that grew over the knee and prevented the knee cap from moving--I know how painful it is when the patella is not moving properly.

There is a tab at the top of the page--find a Clinic which will help you find another doc in your area. K

I agree with skigirl, you need a second opinion, from another OS to get to the bottom of what is going on with your kneecap.

His comments don't fit with the description of your situation. Meaning: he's not listening to you! Find a surgeon who will.

Thank you everyone...I am living in Holland now but my surgery was done in California at the big K and I am not talking about Kmart lol.
I can get a referral to a bone doc here so I will . I was just thinking that I cant be the only person to experience this .I am supposed to get the other knee replaced but after all my issues with the right one I am too chicken .
Happy day to everyone :-)

I hope you get your second knee replaced soon and come back to us to give us your reviews. Hope you take care!

Hi...I wont be getting a second tkr because of the pulmonary embolisms I had post rt tkr . Too much risk for me..I was on the lovenox injections and still clotted .

Thank you to all who replied..I find myself bed bound today due to pain and the steep dutch stairs from bedroom to living area downstairs . My guy set me up with everything I need until he is back home from work .

There is a means to prevent PE, by using a little wire sieve in the major vein called the vena cava. It's like a little upside down umbrella which stops any floating clots from reaching the heart or lungs. Several members here with a previous history of PE have had them fitted.

I hope you do look into what Jo has suggested. Don't give up!!!

It is called a Greenfield Filter, or an Inferior vena cava filter.

spot on, Pumpkln! It's not my field so I just couldn't recall the name of it.
I think if clots get held in there they are attacked by he body's immune system and dissolved. Is that right, Pumpkln;?

They can dissolve or if the filter becomes blocked you develop collateral vessels to continue the flow of blood. Usually not a problem.

Hello!

I had major problems with my patella not tracking! It hurt like the dickens when it would "pop out" but when my PT or my husband, mother or I would shift it back in, presto pain was gone! What Dr. Maale found when he did my knee revision ( I had loose cement from a previous infection also)) was that the patella was not tracking due to the quad muscle being stretched out! He shortened it, shortened the tendon in the calf, and tacked everything into place.

What is strange is a couple of times that old patella has tried to do the same trick it used to, but it is like I have rubber bands snapping it back so it can't misbehave! :heehee:
