Hi Everyone: I've read, on one of the threads, that some of you used the cream voltaren. I remember buying some in Mexico and it worked quite well on my back. Do you know if it's available in the U.S? Where did you purchase it? Can it be used around the knee?
Thanks

Re: Voltaren

Hi Ouch! Yes! Voltaren cream is available by prescription here in the US! I even got samples from my pain management specialist!

Re: Voltaren

Its more of a muscle relaxer.....like a strong Ben Gay!! :)

Re: Voltaren

sorry, I just re-read your post and you did say cream. Interesting, I thought you couldn't get it here. I'll ask the doctor about it tomorrow.

Re: Voltaren

Good luck! It worked.......until my surgery! Remember...its only relieving your pain, not curing it....its very strong stuff!

Re: Voltaren

Voltaren is an NSAID, both in tablet and topical form. The benefit of the topical Voltaren is that it doesn't lead to much of a concentration of the drug throughout the body. One can use the Voltaren gel/cream even if you take an oral NSAID. It is very good for specific, targeted areas.

Re: Voltaren

the Rx name for Voltaren is Solaraze in the US. It is a wonderful pain relief gel with minimal side effects. You can not take other NSAIDs while using it. Make sure your insurance covers it. It costs a fortune out of pocket. I used it for both TKRs and swear by it.

Re: Voltaren

can the voltaren be applied directly onto the knee, once it is all healed, of course.

Re: Voltaren

Ouch,,,,,you won't need it then! Its a topical pain reliever,,,,hopefully, there will be no pain (other than normal healing surgical pain!)

Re: Voltaren

as a topical pain reliever, it works wonders after you come off your stronger prescription pain meds. sometimes, even months after surgery and there is some pain and stiffness, Solaraze is terrific.

Voltaren Gel is by prescription here in the US. Since it is the only one of it's type of medication, even my insurance covers it. To put it mildly, it has been a God send at times!

I was just talking about that the other nught. What excatly does it due.....My scar itches and is very sensitive, hot which makes it hurt is that somthing for it..........Thanks in advance....

Voltaren gel is a topical anti-inflammatory Kim. Can be very effective. You can certainly use it for knee pain (once your scar is fully healed), but be careful not to take oral anti-inflammatories at the same time, otherwise you run the risk of absorbing more than the recommended daily dosage.
Jo will no doubt have a lot more info on it - in fact, I think there is already an existing thread on Voltaren.

Voltaren is diclofenac, one of the top end NSAIDs. You should know that if you use it topically (on the skin) it counts towards your daily intake so if you use it, make sure you don't exceed your daily total.

My doctor prescribed it during a recent bad time with my knees and it was a godsend. It's covered under my insurances and a real blessing since I've had stomach surgery and can't take NSAIDs. You measure it out on a wax paper strip and apply. I used the maximum dose for a couple months. The pain's eased but if it starts up again, I'm ready.

Welcome Skeeter! Just don't overdo it with the Voltaren!
