Those are only the things you remember you no longer enjoy doing. Six months after my surgery we had this beautiful ice storm ( OK it was the first one of the year, all the rest were terrible :)) and I got my camera out grabbed a walking stick and ventured outside. I took some fabulous...
I had a RTKR this past July, my ONLY regret is that I did not do both at the same time. Yes I had a good leg to stand on, but now I have 1 bad leg to stand on!! My surgical leg is so much stronger and better than my left. Yes recovery would have been harder, but the end would have out weighed...
My short list would include:
A shower chair
Lots of pillows
A walker
A dog leash!! ( this sounds funny but I hooked the handle part to my foot and did my leg lifts with it for a bit, and also got my leg into bed with it)
I also lived in a tri-level, and was panicked about getting upstairs. They taught me how in the hospital to go up and down stairs. On my arrival home I had our young strong neighbor meet us at home and Neil helped me up the stairs. He knew I was nervous and he said "Marme look at me, I will...
My knee is relatively new, and as Referee54 stated until I had built my muscles up it may have been a little wobbly but never given out. I don't think you need to worry. At almost 7 months out I don't think of the new knee as the weaker of the two, it definitely is the strongest one! I...
OH I thinks so, I went back to work at 3 months and now 6 months out really never think about my knee as being the weak one. It truly is the stronger of the two! I think it will give you the perfect incentive to do recovery as you should, SLOWLY and with care.
You are doing great ElleJay. Taking the staples out is almost painless, really just a bit of a sting more than a hurt. You will feel relief in your knee immediately. I would think that you would need more Tramadol most of us take painkillers for about 6 weeks.
I think I would take the...
I had no major issues in the hospital, but I could not imagine going home the same day. I think the reason I had no issues is because I was in the hospital with a trained and caring staff. I was on a joint replacement ward and they were very knowledgeable. I had surgery on Tuesday and came...
Good Morning and welcome, The only regret I have with my RTKR is that I did not do both at the same time!! My OS was willing because he knew what a tough cookie I am, but I chickened out. I still marvel and how strong my right knee is.
One of the best memories of my recovery was late this...
That is what I did, but I just couldn't sleep in it. I did sleep in the spare bedroom, DH is a light sleeper and I was a NO sleeper for a few weeks. I watched TV most of the night.
I have two smaller dogs that lounged with me all day long. They instinctively knew my knee was injured and neither of them every jumped or laid on it. I did for the first few weeks kinda barricade my knee off so there wasn't an accident. I say bring those guys home and you all will feel better.
I am not a medical person, but Lyrica has some daunting side effects. I was taking Neurontin (sp) for another issue and I think that helped me with the nerve endings re-fireing.
