Feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all

I am looking forward to taking a walk with my husband, something I haven' t been able to do in years. I have to finish packing today. My house is clean, my freezer is full of good home cooked meals, and I have a walker, shower chair, and toilet riser. I made the homemade ice packs with 2 cups...

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all

I plan to take a cooler for ice. I would love to make the trip shorter by stoping, but there is a whole lot of nothing between here and there, just farm land no hotels. I am going to want to come home as soon as I can anyway.

    TKR both knees

I have Dr. Trousdale and he is bringing in Dr. Mabry, my femurs are both deformed from an accident, when I was a teenager, so I am a difficult case. I have to travel over 7 hours but the Doctors here say that it is in my best interest to go to Mayo where they are used to working on difficult...

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all

Thanks for answering. I am getting scared thinking about what is to come. I have a 7 hour car ride home so I think stoping and buying ice on the way home is the only option I have. Ice packs are not going to stay cold that long. I will buy some ice packs when I get home if the hospital does not...

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all

I leave Tuesday morning to head north to Mayo in MN. My surgery is June 8. I know that I will probably forget to bring something that I need. I was not able to get a ice machine for the long ride home. I guess we will just have to stop every few hours and buy ice. I am really dreading that long...

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all

I was told just last week that I look like I have been riding horses all my life. As for the stares I am used to that I have been walking with a cane since I was a teenager. Now that I am in my 50's I don't stand out like I did when I was young.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by it all

I found out that my surgery has been moved from June 3 to June 8. We have to be at Mayo June 3 for pre op. appointments. I found out that I will have two surgeons for my bilateral TKR, both specialize in difficult cases. I guess I must be a real difficult case. I am really getting nervous and...

    USA doctors are making changes

Just to clarify, walking was the main exercise to allow the joints to heal. I'm very sure there will be other exercises to do on my own several times a day. The change will be not having a PT to force the exercises. I have no intention of not doing anything, but I intend to listen to my body...

    USA doctors are making changes

I just had an interesting call from the nurse at Mayo about my Bilateral TKR that is coming soon. I was told that the doctors at Mayo no longer recommend physical therapy after TKR. The nurse said they just want you to walk. It seems that the doctors here are catching up with the UK on that. Now...

Preventing blood clots during surgery for BTKR

I worry about the blood clots being a problem when I come home. The pumps will be gone and my insurance has only approved a 2 day stay at the hospital.

What is the first week like?

It is really going to be hard for me to just worry about me. I have always been the caregiver. My husband works long 12 hour days at a very physically demanding job. It will make me feel bad to watch him do all the things I usually do around the house, it's just me and him, so we will have to...

Preventing blood clots during surgery for BTKR

I have foot drop from an injury when I was a child. My feet do not move, I walk with braces on my lower legs.

Preventing blood clots during surgery for BTKR

I am a little worried about the fact that I can not do ankle pumps. I wonder how much that is going to increase my chance for blood clots.
