    THR Still in pain

Hi Alice - I have been through the one leg longer than the other problem and have come out the other side and want to encourage you to find a GOOD Pt who can fix the way you walk. I waited too long with my first THR - yes, I have had two - and developed a walk in which I hitched up one side of...

    THR SCee's 2nd THR Recovery

Thank you, Layla! I am improving but sometimes it feels like two steps forward, one step back. Sometimes I forget my cane around the house and don’t seem to limp or struggle, but a day or two later, I need my cane for every move. More than anything, I am looking forward to driving again and...

    THR SCee's 2nd THR Recovery

Thank you, Jacey - you were correct. Also, my pt taught me a trick of placing my toes of my operated leg an inch or two more forward than the other when standing or doing exercises - it takes the pressure off the knee. Just a hint for anyone else facing the problem.

    THR SCee's 2nd THR Recovery

Has anyone experienced pain in the knee of leg with hip replacement a week or so after surgery? I am wondering if the pain is the result contracting thigh muscles (as suggested by home pt). I can barely walk on that leg. I am trying to rest and stay off it, but it’s been several days without...

    THR SCee's 2nd THR Recovery

Second time was the charm- aching but not bad. By not waiting so long it has made all the difference! Thank you Layla and Cricket for the kind words!

    THR Right side

It’s been a little over 2 years since I had the left replaced - going in on 4/24 for the right. A little nervous but feel stronger than the last time. Fingers crossed!

    THR Hi! Post THR recovery

Hi JohnWilky- I have quite a limp without support, too. At pt I was asked to watch myself walk in a mirror and saw that I still tend to swing my leg out funny like I did before surgery - so I have to concentrate to walk properly. It is a bit more painful walking properly without assistance and...

    THR One Week Out

Thank you, Celle. It is frustrating at times that I have seen so little improvement in this area. I always feel better when I check back in with my Bonesmart friends!

    THR One Week Out

Does anyone have experience with the lengthening of a leg weeks after surgery? I hear about the leg with the new hip feeling longer post surgery, but my leg is shorter. My PT thinks the difference could be as much as an inch. He put a lift in my shoe today to help my gait, which is really...

Bilateral THR Tiare’s Recovery Thread — Let’s do this!

Recovery is a roller coaster without the work issues - especially in the early weeks. The work issues are a roller coaster, too! The work issues may make you feel overly dependent on others. I promise you that in the next year or two you will find yourself engrossed in a new job thinking, “why...

Bilateral THR Tiare’s Recovery Thread — Let’s do this!

Good job, Tiare! Even with one hip replaced, sometimes the other leg seems to suffer. It’s whacky. My PT reminds me that the balance and interplay between the two legs is important. I imagine the knee - hip connection is the same. I actually went in to an ortho for my knees years ago and...

    THR Psoas tendonitis post-THR

@Sashimu - I am 4 days behind you in recovery, Having said that, we all come to this from different starting points. I was limping around for months before surgery in tons of pain. Before that, I was a runner for many years and then I cycled when I couldn’t run any longer. I think that helps...

    THR Outpatient Replacement

@BellaMac. I was nervous going home too soon. I was able to get upstairs into bed fine - a regular bed. I just stayed upstairs most of the first week, used the walker to get to the bathroom, and let my husband wait on me. In home care is often an option - I signed up, but felt so comfortable...

Bilateral THR Tiare’s Recovery Thread — Let’s do this!

Hi @Tiare - Congratulations! I know that pain in the backside well! It is scary but normal. There will be more but don’t fret - so long as you’re not in nonstop agony with your leg twisted oddly, you’re good. I was worried that I dislocated my hip and learned it is quite rare. Not that you...

    THR THR @ 33

@BigDon I was also one of those people who was told to wait and in retrospect I waited unnecessarily while enduring quite a bit of discomfort. I had a very senior doctor who told me to wait until I was 60 when I was 50. At 57, I couldn’t take it any longer. By then my original doctor retired...
