Ankle Total ankle arthroplasty July 8, 2019

HI, You are about 6 months out from surgery and I'm curious on your progress. How is your swelling? How is your incision site, i.e. nerves, numbness? What is your range of motion? Can you please provide an update? Thanks!!!

Hi Jimmer! I'm so sorry to hear about your setback. At least it doesn't appear to be any actual damage to the implant. Tendons can heal and the long term results are still worth a little bit more healing time and patience. Please update us on your progress. I'm still trotting along. I'm...

    Ankle Total Ankle Replacement 9-12-19

Hi Larry, Thank goodness I haven't encountered too many steps so far. I had a holiday event to attend and had to walk down a few flights of stairs. Going down was fine but I took the elevator back up. Walking is getting easier so my flexibility is getting better. My PT therapist advised my...

    Ankle Total Ankle Replacement 9-12-19

UPDATE: I forgot to post my update from my last doctor's visit on 12/19. He took more x-rays and told me everything looked great, no bone overgrowth on the implant. I still have only limited flexibility for the range of motion for up and down but he told me to stop the PT and just continue...

    Ankle Total Ankle Replacement 9-12-19

Hi Jimmer, I'm happy to hear that you are progressing. I'm into my second month of PT and I still have a limited range of motion for the up and down position. I see the doctor on 12/19 so I'm wondering if I'll be on my own after that. I've only been going twice a week for PT and sometimes...

Hopefully the therapist can offer some other suggestions. You still have a month before Christmas so keep your fingers crossed you can make that long drive! In my case, the driving doesn't seem to bother me since there's no weight on the ankle, just movement.

Hi Jimmer, I still have swelling and redness in my ankle as soon as I step on it. I try and wear the compression sock most of the time. You might give that a try for less pain and swelling. Also, are you icing your ankle?

    Ankle Total Ankle Replacement 9-12-19

UPDATE: I went for my check up with the surgeon yesterday. No new x-rays were taken but he checked the movement and flexibility of my ankle. At 9 weeks post surgery, he was very happy with my progress. My tendons are still very tight and I have very limited range of motion for the upward...

Ankle My total ankle replacement story

That's great news. I know we have to endure some pain to regain our flexibility back but there are limits. I'm 9 weeks out today and I see the surgeon tomorrow. I don't know whether he'll continue the PT or not but I still have minimum range of motion for up and down. I went into this...

Ankle My total ankle replacement story

Larry, I agree with Jaycey, you need to speak up to your therapist. I've never experienced a lot of pain during the sessions. He always asks how I'm feeling when he's pressing my foot upwards (my hardest exercise). He also has recommended to keep icing my ankle at night for about 15 minutes...

Ankle My total ankle replacement story

Larry, Wow, looks just like my implant! I'm glad the doctor has given you the go ahead for the PT sessions. Those have certainly helped me. I went yesterday for another PT appointment and he's advised me to start walking around more. I sit a lot for my job so I guess my ankle is stiffening...
