    TKR Back home, surgery 07/23

Well, today is 9 weeks post-surgery. I haven't had any major issues at work, but I do confess to needing a short break once I get four out of the six flights of stairs completed. That is usually only in the morning though, and by the second or third time I negotiate the stairway I can go all...

OK folks, tomorrow is the "magic" day - back to work. Those six flights of stairs will be my PT now. Friday was my last day. Extension is 1~ish to 0 with slight one-finger push down. Flexion is 120 unassisted, about 123 with a tug, but no pain. It feels like there still might be some slight...

Well, tomorrow makes week five. I have reduced my trips to outpatient PT to only twice per week now. I have contacted my surgeon and requested a "back to work (light duty)" letter from him. I am looking to be back in the plant on September 9th. Extension is still 2 degrees, but unassisted...

    TKR Clicking, Clunking post op...anyone?

I noticed the "clicking" after my right knee replacement in 2016. I think it was at least two years before the parts 'wore in" and it mostly went away. I only notice it how when it is on the upward (unloaded) stroke on the bike when my left leg is pushing down. My orthopedist says that my new...

Well, today is exactly three weeks postop. Not much change, but I am still very happy for where I am at on this go-around. The PT measured on Monday for general information. I am at +2 extension (working on it...) and 110 no assistance, and 114 with a push into mild to moderate discomfort...

Went in for my two-week (and two day) post-surgical checkup with my orthopedist today. No more island dressings to mess with now, and I peeled off the steri-strips after I got home. The incision is almost completely healed! I like his method much better than the staples for the last three...

Day seven. Boy howdy, talk about swelling. Doc says to get into a compression stocking to help that. My ankle and foot are pretty swollen too. I have been elevating and alternating heating pad/ice as much as possible. The more I work with the PT the more I like her. No push into pain...

Well, as an update, the "real" recovery process has now started. The thigh block and steroid injection wore off about the same time. Then the swelling set in. I guess my vision of going opioid-free for this recovery ain't gonna' happen. Well, taking OIC counter measures and hoping they'll...

My wife removed the surgical dressing today and was very pleased with the results. Very little bleeding had occurred, and it was very "neat/orderly" looking to her. The island dressing was not a challenge to put on. UPDATE - just read the icethingy they gave me: Rossur ColdPump. Although it...

I made it through my one-night stay in the hospital. All seems to have gone well. Working on pain management with reduced consumption of opioids. They gave me another ice machine (Ice Man?). It and the recliner will be my buddy for the next week or so. Start outpatient Physical Therapy...

    TKR RFA, Preop, questions...

They used a fluoroscope for placement. Like "Live TV", only more graphic. Hmm, come to think of it, as much as TV has "progressed" these last few years, maybe not more graphic after all, but you get the added dimension of feeling needles and cannulae moving in your knee area.

    TKR RFA, Preop, questions...

I have been spending the last day or so poking around up in the attic. I have finally located all of my "recovery supplies" that were stashed in there for years. Most of that stuff I didn't need/use for recovery from either shoulder replacement.

    TKR RFA, Preop, questions...

Thanks. Feeling a bit apprehensive now. I am starting to remember wayyy back after the first one how I was sure I'd made a very bad decision. That was the first two weeks post-surgery. My opinion now is colored by eight years of pain-free life with the new right knee. Then the stupid left...

Went in and did the ablation this morning. I'm glad I took the whole day off. They went in at three locations. The "number 2" location on the upper-inside of the knee felt the process the most. No sedatives or anesthesia used. The two-hour drive home was uncomfortable, and I stopped twice to...
