    THR philau43's recovery thread<

Thanks again @Mojo333. Life has returned to normal over the last few months and I have paid little or no attention to the fact I had a THR last May. I may be guilty of unconsciously over doing it given the circumstances. Perhaps I need a reality check and the pain/discomfort is a way for my body...

    THR philau43's recovery thread<

Hi @Mojo333 Thanks for the reply. I will have a 12 month follow up and the surgeon said he would also X-ray at the same time. I suppose I thought it would all be one way traffic once life returned to normal so I’m a bit surprised to get these aches and twinges. I’d forgotten about the ice trick...

    THR philau43's recovery thread<

Update - rather to my surprise I’ve been experiencing some occasional mild pain and discomfort around my new hip area. Nothing as debilitating as the pre hip op pain but I confess to being surprised and slightly concerned. I suppose I’d hoped to have reached the fabled ‘forgotten hip’ status by...

    THR philau43's recovery thread<

New Years Eve - the last day of New Hip Year. The discomfort and pain I was experiencing 12 months ago has now all gone. Whilst not quite back to normal, nor yet at the ‘forgotten hip’ stage, I am but pretty close. Wishing a happy New Year to all my hip supporters and thank you for all your kind...

Thank you @Mojo333 - kind words as always. Liking the new look web site.

Thanks @Layla for your kind words. The recovery has gone well and I am very thankful for that. I am surprised I suppose, that I am not 100% yet. My thigh muscle still feels weak and I am most aware of that when climbing stairs. There is a dull ache sometimes from the hip joint but nothing that...

    THR philau43's recovery thread<

Firstly, apologies! It’s been a long time since I last posted. I suppose irs because life has returned to relatively normal but that’s a shallow excuse. I am now nearly 5 months post op and generally back to normal. That said, I’d say I am actually 95 % back. Still twinges and mild discomfort...

Depression/post-op blues - open for all

My Mum was feeling a bit low yesterday so I showed her some of these postings. It’s always better to know you are not alone and what you are feeling is perfectly normal. She seemed to perk up a little after reading @Josephine library topic on post op blues, thank you as always.

Thanks @Calgal you’re quite right - flashbacks of the horror are definitely the thing! She’s 81 next month, 7.5 stone dripping wet and only 5’ tall, so not too much pressure on the new joint. She’s doing very well but an active lifestyle finally took its tole! Dad’s 86 and getting ‘old’ so we...

Can’t say I ever painted my toe nails...:rotfl: but happy to give it a try. Do they make a long handled paint brush??

    THR ChrissW's recovery thread

Hi @ChrissyW I think I’m probably very similar to you in terms of physical and psychological recovery. The brain thought ‘yep, 12 weeks and I’m done’ but the hip thought ‘not quite my friend!’ I’ve been working full time again for some weeks now and I am very tired at the end of the day/week...

Brought Mum home today (she’s convalescing with us for a few weeks until she feels able to go home). She’s very sore and not yet mastered the crutches but, with my own experience relatively fresh in my mind (and my wife’s even more so), we are able to help and encourage her. Early days though.

    THR philau43's recovery thread<

Mum’s op went well and she looked remarkable last night when I popped in for a visit. She had held off on the morphine dose so she would be awake for her visitors - I gave her a good talking too! She was surprised (weren’t we all?) by the pain and stiffness she was feeling particularly when the...

    THR ChrissW's recovery thread

Glad to hear all is progressing well @ChrissyW. It’s quite a learning curve we embark upon following our op, but the support and reassurance of those on BS who have gone before is invaluable.

Thanks @Layla and @Calgal - those 3 months have flown by. The was no residual damage from the dog/chicken incident (for me, the dog or the chicken!)I’m pleased to say. We also grow a lot of fruit and veg, but my wife is the skilled one and I do what I’m told, like all good husbands...:heehee:
