    TKR Panammaniac’s Recovery Thread

@JusticeRider Good to hear from you. I hope you’re doing well! What’s interesting is that my right knee WAS the bad one. I had arthroscopic on it and it felt much better, and then I injured the left one while officiating a high school basketball game (which turned out to be an ACL issue). It...

@EalingGran Yes, it does still get a little bit warm, and it does still swell up a little bit with a lot of activity. My OS told me this would be normal for a year or so. It isn't intolerable. A little bit of ice after I've been active takes care of it.

6 month report: Yesterday marked 6 months post surgery, and I'm happy to report that everything is still going extremely well. I'd say I'm probably about 90% recovered and able to function fully normally with almost no limitations. I was just on a cruise last week and I took the stairs...

A small milestone today - I was able to put ice skates on and do a little bit of skating for the first time in a few years! Nothing major, just a few laps around the rink. It felt good to be back out there and everything went just fine. The background on that is 15 years ago when my daughter...

    TKR Panammaniac’s Recovery Thread

@JusticeRider My surgeon hasn’t tried to recruit me, but she did tell me I’m one of the best recoveries she’s ever seen. I had a follow-up appointment with her over the phone on January 20 and she was shocked that I wasn’t taking any meds at all, not even Tylenol. She said that’s unheard of. The...

@Layla Thank you! All is still going well. I am in New Mexico for the weekend, back to my old college town for an event hosted by my alma mater that my daughter is in. On Friday morning we had a few hours to kill before her event started, so we decided to go for a little morning hike. This...

For me it was two things - 1) being able to increase activity level due to not being in pain, and 2) simply cutting down on how much I eat. I looked at the nutritional info for all of our favorite restaurants. I don't know about the UK, but in the US all of the restaurants have to publish that...

    TKR Panammaniac’s Recovery Thread

I just had a virtual visit with my OS this week. She said because I was doing really well there was no real need for me to go in - we could just do it over video chat. Of course if it had been an office visit I would have had my BP checked as part of the routine. Oh well, I'll find somewhere...

@EalingGran Thanks for your response! My resting pulse has actually gone down since my surgery. I need to find a BP cuff and check to see if it has gone down to normal. The last time it was checked was 3 weeks post-op and it was still high. I've been sleeping very well since about the 3 week...

Quick question: How common is it for blood pressure to spike after TKR? My normal BP is somewhere around 100/60. The last new times I had it checked were in the days and first couple weeks after my surgery, and it was in the range of 138/82. I didn’t think much of it until I got a new...

@JusticeRider Thank you! We had an amazing time at the parade. Lots of great bands, and so much fun hosting a couple of young ladies from the Japanese band at our home. I had no problem at all making the mile walk from our parking space to our seat. In fact the rest of my party had trouble...

@Layla Yeah, some of the networks really cheat the bands. The best coverage this year came from KTLA - they gave the band about a minute and a half and even zoomed right in on my daughter for a few seconds. They have their video of the entire parade on their YouTube channel. The National feeds...

Thanks for stopping by @Layla! We are excited for the Rose Parade tomorrow. It will be my daughter’s second. If you watch on TV look for the Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band. She’s one of the high school students who made it in. We are also hosting two young ladies from...

    TKR Michele's RTKR recovery journey

Happy New Year, @Cheleigh! Thanks for checking in! Sorry to hear about the illness that spread through your family. I had an adventure of my own. The short story is I got stuck in the Southwest Airlines mess, but it all worked out in the end. I’ll post the full story in my own thread soon...

    TKR Michele's RTKR recovery journey

Glad to hear that you’re doing great and able to do most of your traditional holiday activities! I feel like I’m about 75% back to normal, but the last 25% will take a while. My family and I are taking a 2 hour flight to Denver on Friday to spend Christmas with my in-laws, but then we have to...
