PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

It is seeming unlikely, sadly. We were going to come over in around 20 days and stay for 6 weeks or so with both daughters and 4 grandchildren coming for Easter but probably not going to happen now. I am really happy with progress of my knee - I currently have sciatica (stood up awkwadly) and...

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

Henrietta - designated driver - welcome to my world!! I cannot drink much, if at all, since the menopause, which is rotten when spending 6 months of the year in France. I wonder how close you are to me in France - I am on the Charente/Dordogne border. My biggest nearest hospital would be...

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

I have ordered a couple of ice packs I can use and have told hubby we will have to stop every hour or so in order for me to walk a bit. Already made sure the back seat will be available so I think I have covered everything. It will depend on surgeon though, I will take his advice.

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

Henrietta - I lived in France for three years and know that the French health system is excellent. We paid a mutuelle too and hubby had two operations there. I have total confidence in my surgeon here - NHS treatment in a private hospital - but simply feel that I could have done with loads more...

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

No we are certainly not alone, who knew it was such a commonly performed operation? I have started walking round with just 1 crutch and sometimes no crutch at all. I do find my knee aches after about half an hour so I sit with my leg raised for an hour. However at nearly 3 weeks po I am finally...

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

I did only have a partial - didn't know until half way through the op - nor did the surgeon. I don't know how it compares to a TKR but it is bloody horrible so I guess much the same. I am, however, attempting to walk around with one crutch only which I prefer. 18 days and counting - there does...

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

Henrietta did you spend long in hospital in France ? On holiday in France last summer my daughter spent a couple of days in hospital. The lady she shared a room with had undergone surgery and was off to a convalescent home for 3 weeks. My biggest problem after my 2 days in hospital here in the...

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

Well, first 'proper' physio session today and I discovered my crutches had been set too low - they have been corrected and I can use them now and almost look graceful instead of like the hunchback of Notre Dame. I have learnt a few more exercises and been told to wear the (really uncomfortable)...

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

What are you all doing with regard to pain relief? I am down to simply taking 2 paracetamol every 6 hours plus icing my knee after doing my exercises - currently sitting on the bed with a pack of frozen peas wrapped in a towel placed on my knee. I am finding that all these painkillers make me...

TKR Assigned PT exercises and sharp pain – told to just work through it…….

Hope it goes well for you, and sorts out your problem. Bad enough to go through the nightmare of a TKR but to then still have a problem weeks later is rotten.

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

Wow I'm really hungry now and i don't even know what you're talking about! I have found I need to eat more because of taking so many painkillers so I can see a diet on the cards once I am back to normal.

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

Good point, the insurance companies would not be happy to hear of driving after such a short while and yes, it is these 'stories' that lead to people setting themselves unrealistic goals. Oh well, back to more attainable goals - preferably maintaining my leg in the requisite colour and not...

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

Hi Tykey, how long after op did you walk unaided?? Speaking to someone prior to my op they said they were driving 3 weeks after operation - maybe that has given me unrealistic expectations (after all, they could have been being fluid with the truth).

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

I did use a walker in the hospital but as Tykey said it may just be a British thing that we all get given crutches. They are easy to use but I am looking forward to being able to just use a walking stick. Reading other people's postings, I realise that I'm expecting far too much of myself far...

PKR Boredom, self-pity, pain and frustration

Had a RPKR on Jan 30th. Who knew it was going to be so rotten - not me. Treated under the NHS but in a private hospital - awake and chatting/listening to music during op. - this is a doddle I think to myself. Next day, surgeon pops in, good movement, no pain - superb. Lots of drugs, nurse...
