Hey Jamie….probably preaching to the choir!!!
As you are aware, I fought and dreaded a shoulder replacement for many years…..had the misconception that I would be in someway “physically handicapped”. So far, in my seven months of recovery that is/has not been the situation. I am back to no...
Six month update
Had my six months appointment with Edwards.
After a series of movement and strength checks, he stated that my subscapularis tendon is completely healed……I can return to normal activities (exercises),. Any that I want. No restrictions.
He stated I am doing excellent!!! Also...
Week 20 update
After a discussion witrh my physical therapists we have mutually agreed that I stop formal physical therapy. Will continue on my own (with my trainer) until I get a complete release from Edwards. That appointment is the first week of September.
Zero issues......except for...
In the final stages of recovery from a shoulder replacement.
Very active .....played sports and developed major arthritis over time......went through range of motion loss, loss of functionality, major increase in pain and discomfort ......over about eight years. I fought and fought against a...
I am now week fifteen post-procedure......met with my doctor week thirteen. I feel I am completely recovered.....no discomfort or any other issues. My range of motion is excellent. Per my physical therapists doing fantastic.....way ahead of the curve. I was hoping to be released for normal...
Met with Edwards last week….six weeks post procedure.
He was impressed with my level of progress and stated I was well ahead of the recovery curve. As a result, I can now hold up to ten pounds with my arm and have no range of motion restrictions. However, he also cautioned me to be patient and...
Four weeks post procedure ……doing great. Experience some stiffness with some muscular discomfort in my arm and upper shoulder. Believe that is from inactivity for these muscle groups. It is amazing how fast atrophy occurs. My biggest issue at this point is to not “over use” my left arm.
I have...
First.....knowledge is power
I believe first way to help alllay your fear it to be as knowledgeable as possible. It appears you have selected a highly skilled doctor who has a history of thousands of cases.......would therfore assume he practices at a facility that has an outstanding record...
Met with Edwards Wednesday……one week post procedure. They took a extensive series of x-rays and he said the prothesis is perfect. I am to begin physical therapy immediately. Interestingly, they have recommended specific aquatic exercises to be included with the rehab. I was given a list of...
Had my left shoulder arthroplasty on Wednesday at the Fondren Orthopedic Hospital by Greg Edwards. He said “everything went perfect”. My shoulder was in very bad shape……he removed 15 loose bodies (three quite large), quite a bit of debris, removed some dead bone and was able to install a...
Thanks Jamie......tough decision
Part of the decision to go forward was based on the reputation of the doctor......my friend who works for Stryker knows him well (actually provides orthopedic devices/prosthetics and is present at procedures), highly recommended him.....one of the best in the...
Update…..
Well, I fought the “fight” for as long as I could, and have now surrendered!!!!! This struggle had been on-going for many years. I am scheduled to have my shoulder surgery February 25.
I met again this week with the last doctor I interviewed……we discussed my CT scan and, in his...
Thanks for the comments. I am an avid golfer and have a great deal of discomfort with a golf swing. Both doctors have assured me that I will be able to play golf again pain free.
Additionally, both of the doctors have been associated with the Texas and Astros at some point.
Update….
Since I was here a few months ago I have met with a third doctor who is a member of the Fondren Orthopedic Group, and has done about 350 shoulder replacement cases per year (he was recommended by my friend with Stryker). He is a proponent for the anatomic procedure unless there is...
