TKR 20 months post TKR, worsening knee pain

@Gogglegirl - initially my doctor just did the usual set of x-Rays. But then he had me go back to the room and get on the table and I had to flex my knees towards my chest while sitting up. It was almost like doing a sit up while grabbing your knee. It wasn't easy since my core muscles aren't...

TKR 20 months post TKR, worsening knee pain

I had something similar happen but it was 6 months after my 2nd TKR. I was doing fine then started having pain on the lateral side and underneath my kneecap, couldn't climb stairs any longer and most of the symptoms you describe. I had full extension and flexion of 120 but something just wasn't...

    Pre-Op appointment tomorrow, cold feet??

If you can have it done now, and need it don't put it off. I put it off for 10 years and mine only got worse and by the time I decided to have it done it was much harder to fix because I waited so long. Also, if you're retiring before you're eligible for Medicare, don't depend on Obamacare to...

    Travel home information please

I had the same issue with both of my TKR's. I had my surgery in Indy and live 2½hrs away in Louisville. We have an Explorer SUV with captain's chairs in the middle row, so we put those down, I slid into the third row seat and then elevated my knee and leg on pillows the whole way home. I had a...

    CPM Machine

My surgeon uses the CPM machine and with my first TKR I found it relaxing and felt it helped with elevation. I only used it the first week. With my second TKR, I'm not sure what the difference was but it just seemed to bother me, it caused pain in my hip and back and I didn't feel like it was...

TKR Adhesions and Pain 14 months After L TKR<

I've had both knees replaced, my surgeon is one of the best in the country (I drive 3 hours one way to see him) and I never had any formal PT at home or outpatient after either surgery. He has therapists in his office that I see when I have follow-up visits with the doctor who evaluate my...

    Revision TKR 3 years out - Injury?worked

I had a similar thing that flared back up when I had my RTKR last year and I started doing some calf stretches. I went back to the Podiatrist who treated me the 1st time for it and he did x-rays of it again and said it was still stable. It finally settled down, but I can tell you that my OS did...

    Revision TKR 3 years out - Injury?worked

I know I've said this before but you are doing way, way, way too much activity at this point and the swelling in your knee is a result of that. You're not even 4 weeks out yet and fixing dinner, cleaning up, Hobby Lobby, Home Depot, and going to PT 2 or 3 times a week? I know you're a lot...

    TKR Laurie's LPKR continued journey

I used ice around the clock for the 1st couple of weeks. I had a cryo-cuff which circulates ice water and adds compression to the front of your knee and has Velcro straps to hold it on. I also used the gel ice packs and put them to the back of my knee. In fact, the ice packs on the back seemed...

    TKR Laurie's LPKR continued journey

First of all I can tell you from my own experience you can't compare one knee to the other. My first TKR was a breeze, the second one not so much. Secondly, it sounds like you may have overdone it while you had the benefit of the numbing medicine and toradol on board and paid for it after it...

Diane's Knee Quest finally the real deal

I could feel it in the front of my knee and along the outer side. I did not have any popping in my knee before surgery. You may not be able to do much before surgery as far as improving your flexion because there may be something keeping your knee from being able to bend. If it hurts, don't do it!

Diane's Knee Quest finally the real deal

I only did the heel slides until I felt I had a good stretch, not to the point of pain. I used the strap because it made it easier for me in the beginning when my bend wasn't very good. As I got better I didn't need to use it, but you shouldn't use it if it causes pain.

Diane's Knee Quest finally the real deal

I think those sound great and if you have a pool in your backyard, why not? I'm jealous! I used to go to Aqua fitness at the Y before I had my new knees and enjoyed it. Now it's just not enough of a challenge so I do the bikes and weight machines and enjoy that. My doctor also had me start the...

TKR 2 New Knees and a Little Tweak

So I saw my OS and the therapist on Thursday for my 2 week checkup. Got the staples out - what a relief! They took x-rays and showed me the difference between before surgery and what the kneecap looks like now. Wow- that piece of bone that had grown on the lateral side was really wicked! No...

Diane's Knee Quest finally the real deal

@dianehelen - I can completely relate to your fear about your upcoming TKR. Although it took me 10 years to finally make the decision to get my knees replaced(a decision I now wish I had done much sooner), once the day began to approach I began to let all those fears about "what if I don't wake...
