THR So I walked out on my PT...

A cautionary tale: After about six PT sessions, with several left to go, I finally walked out on my physical therapist. I've had PT before and recognize the need to exert yourself and make muscles work, but as an athlete I also know how to listen to my body when it says "enough". Physical...

THR So I walked out on my PT...

Having had surgery 8 March 2021, doing my home PT exercises, and walking daily I figured I'd be a bit further along energy-wise by now. But after 15 to 20 minutes of easy walking I'm getting exhausted. Trying not to get annoyed and I do rest as needed. I'm also reading it takes 3 to 6 months...

THR So I walked out on my PT...

Well, just told by my surgeon that no more volleyball for me. The concern being that diving on the court or jumping at the net may cause the implant to injure the bone. The very graphic example the surgeon used is what a log splitter (i.e., the implant) does to a log (i.e., my femur). Ok...

THR So I walked out on my PT...

I was curious of the hip surgery process and looked up photos on line. Goodness. Had my first PT appointment today. The PT tech is direct, firm and, not too personable, but I recognize that he's there to keep me on track. I'm not shy about mentioning to him if something is too much, but we'll...

THR So I walked out on my PT...

Just had my first post-surgical clinic PT. Discouraging. Made me realize even more fully how weak my leg is and how far I have to go. Yes, patience and consistency. But right now... Will keep trying, but just annoying.

THR So I walked out on my PT...

Loss of appetite? Is it pretty standard to lose your appetite for a bit after surgery? Trying to separate out that with the fact I still have residual loss of taste from Covid back in January. Have only about 85% taste back after Covid, but wondering if some of this is also lack of appetite...

THR So I walked out on my PT...

Looking for a recommendation for new shoes. Would like to find Velcro strap walking shoes. Looked on Walking Company site, but not sure what is best. Any suggestions for comfortable walking shoes?

2021 March Musketeers - Are you having hip surgery in March?

Thank you for letting me join the forum. Had a left anterior hip replacement on 8 March. Love the fact that Goofy is the mascot for the "March Musketeers". Sort of how I feel these days attempting to get dressed and put on shoes.

THR So I walked out on my PT...

Thanks everyone for your comments. Will see what the surgeon has to say in a few weeks. Suppose right now I need to focus more on trying to get up out of a chair than what may happen a few months from now. I think my biggest challenge, besides that chair, may be having to be patient. Sort of...

THR So I walked out on my PT...

Hi Jaycey: Thanks for the email and including me with this group. My left hip was replaced on 8 March, so I'm about 11 days out. Moving slow, but walking with walker and patience. Because I play competitive volleyball in organized leagues (regional, state-level, national), the quality of play...

THR So I walked out on my PT...

Morning: How do sports fit in after all the dust settles? Had an anterior total hip replacement on 8 March and still in recovery stage. But now hearing that no more volleyball due to possibility of damage to implant. Now 65, but have played competitive volleyball for 40+ years. Still go to...
